Media Manager failure

vittorio wrote on 6/4/2006, 2:26 PM
In the last couple of weeks, upon opening Vegas, the following message pops up:
"The MSSQL$SONY_MEDIAMGR service does not exist or the current account does not have enough privilege to manage it. OK"
When I click "OK" another pop up says:
"An error occurred with the Media Manager. This feature will be unavailable. Media Manager initialization failed. OK"
After clicking "OK" the program opens but the Media Manager is blank and confirms: "The Media Manager failed initialization and is not available."
Everything else seems to work normally.
I have reloaded the program, including the latest update, but the problem persists.
Anybody willing to help?

Hello Vittorio,

The same thing is happening to me. I have just purchased Vegas. I should mention that my first installation was successful. The very next day due to other issues, I had to reinstall Windows and subsequently all other programs including Vegas. This is when the problem began. I do not know what to do other than contact Sony for tech support.

HI,
I had the same experience when trying to first use AcidPro 6 and also when reinstalling Vegas 6...just couldn't seem to solve the issue.
Here is a response that may help...from JohnnyRoy
As he mentions I went and deleted any trace of the SQL server and the Media Mgr I could find, reboot, reinstall, etc.
Good Luck,
Teaktart

It sure sounds like you have a corrupt installation. I believe the problem is that the Media Manager is a shared component and a re-install doesn’t always re-install shared components if they are already present. I did a search on my PC and the file in question was found at:
C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Media Manager\MSSQL$SONY_MEDIAMGR\Binn\Resources\1033
It had the following properties:
12/17/2002 06:22 PM 28,672 sqlevn70.rll
Does that file exist on your PC? What I would do is uninstall ACID. Then in Windows go to

Start > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs

And uninstall “Sony Media Manager 2.1” AND “Microsoft SQK Server Desktop Engine (SONY_MEDIAMGR)” IN THAT ORDER! and then REBOOT. Finally re-install ACID Pro 6.0.

If that doesn’t work, I would contact Sony Tech Support to have them help you sort it out.

Thank you JohnnyRoy.
While your instructions did not work right away they led me on the right track. I removed Acid, Sony Media Manager 2 and Microsoft SQK; this did not achieve the intent. When I also removed and then reinstalled Vegas the problem finally went away.
