Media Manager? "Resolve Offline Media"?

Grazie wrote on 6/7/2008, 10:29 PM
OK, I have moved files from HD-1 to HD-2, and quite correctly MM, puts a red line through the Media saying that they are off-line. Understood.

Now, I can resolve each file, one at a time, but how do I resolve several - like 100 plus! I really do not fancy doing one at a time?

Q: How do I make a selection of Offline Media for the resolution process to work?

There has to be an easy way forward. Yes?

. .and yes, I have run the "Update" process.

I have looked over the post on this, by me 2 years back, and there is nothing that I can see that will allow for multiple file "Resolve" - even though the Resolve menu explicitly informs me that "The following files are not in their original location" that is plural - see?

If I select a set of Offline files I can only get one to appear in the resolve menu. The rest are stubbornly left behind.

TIA

Please:
1, uncheck the "Auto Preview",
2, in "Advanced -- Add New Search Critaria" choose "offline = true" and check it,
3, Ctr + A = select all offline items,
4, Del key.

Eh? After I delete the items, what is the next stage? Are you telling me there is no-way to "Resolve" this without:

4, Del key

Is that what you are saying? Then please tell me explicitly. And, if this IS the case then, IMO, this "Resolve" feature is found wanting for multiple, already Updated "Offline" files. Are you saying that too? Why does the "Resolve" menu speak of Files = Plural?

Thanks for the tip on grouping offline media. I know how to make an aggregate/append report against particular criteria. And yes it is very useful.

explicitly, if I know your bank construction, I can tell you how to resolve. For my case:
1, I don't use the compex like Sony's reference bank or the default one.
2, Instead of this I establish 2x36 "tags" for video and 1x36 for audio (4 columns and 9 lines).
3, every tag referes to one folder. These "tag-folders" can be relocated if I had volum problem or just will rearrange my HDs.
4, The way to add items to my bank -- not add tags to items -- is:
A, float the bank and vegas explorer on the surface,
B, in V-explorer choose tag-folder from Network route (so your bank can be used by other computers, too), one time one folder, select and drag the items to the bank,
C, MManager creates every time one scan result. And this is my tag. I put it under the proper tag panel. As you see, I must do this process 3x36 times.

5, But then, the maintenance is quite simple:
5.1. by adding new items I just repeat the procedure accordingly,
5.2. by deleting existing items you can act in the tag folder or directly in the bank,
5.3. by relocating (e.g. from HD1 to HD2), 1stly delete the item's name from your bank (I told you), 2ndly, repeat 4A-B-C.
6, I never use "save media-usage relationships in active media library".
a reference audio bank of mine, I can't compose nor sing -- I just define what I want -- has these tags:
drumbass, fx, kontext, vocal, bazar, city, countryside, factory, history, homeoffice, humanfocus, humankult, jobmetal, jobtool, kliclack, krach, liquid, luft, naturwild, naturzeit, presure, release, signal, timeclock, transflug, tranship, transroad, transtrain, tummel, ufo, vakuum, verstreuen, warbattle, warfire, warknife, wartroop.
Hope you'll enjoy my fancy.

This drives me crazy also.

When you open an old in Vegas-after you've moved the files-Vegas searches for the first one, then uses the same location for the rest.

Why not MM???????????

Hey Grazie and all,
This just came up in the Acid Forums and guess who responded (twice!!!)

I don't know if this works yet in Vegas for multiple files yet (I'm away from that computer) but will try later.

I got a great response from SONY. This was actually 24 hours after I had "stumbled" on it for myself too. That's spooky . . .

1] Group OFF line media in MM

2] Right click and and GRAB group and GO TO MOVE THE selection by at least one screen pixel as IF going to place the selection within the main Vegas Timeline

. .and! POP!! . . .

The Resolve menu comes into play with ALL the OFF-line files there ready for your attention.

Who'd have thought? Who'd have thought that my attempt at "moving" files that I am being told are OFF-line onto the Vegas workspace would have activated a menu for use? Amazing logic that? Anyways, SONY got back to me, which I REALLY do appreciate and have instructed me and confirmed what I HAD discovered to be method to resolve the . . er . . "Resolve"!
