Media Mangler

I give up, Vegas won't open - it poops out on loading and then disappears with no error message, nothing. The last thing I did was open up a project with some HDV test footage. I resized the playback window to be as large as I could on my second monitor. I closed project, and now won't reopen, can't launch Vegas. If I uninstall Media Mangler, it opens right up. If I reinstall Media Mangler, nothing. I uninstalled MM, opened a new DV project, saved, then reinstalled MM. Vegas just won't open with MM installed.

This is a "fresh" install of Vegas 6.0b on a totally fresh install of WinXp Pro. I tried with and without HT enabled in the Dell Bios.

I could try deleting the Vegas folder, but I'm feeling pretty apathetic to do so because I'm sure this will happen again. Is there any other way to fix?

I CAN live without Media Mangler.

I'm using the trial version and also had to turn off the media manager to get things stable. It's a shame because at this point I do not know if it will require a new computer to get media manager working stable and it looks like it has some interesting potential and would be the main reason I would upgrade since there was no titler improvments :(.

I purchased V6b the other day and today turned off the MM....what do you know, Vegas works like a champ without it. I have XPpro SP2, 1 gig ram, amd 3200+. It's too bad because I like what the MM brings to the table.

I used Media Manager with 6.0b and haven't had any problems.

Had some problem in 6.0a where I had it turned off for a while. Can't remember if that was related to Vidcap or what. Something was crashing the program then. Anyways now I use Scenalyzer so I don't worry about vidcap. Media Manager's working fine.

V6 will open correctly with media manager enabled only after a restart,

or if I open a project holding down the reset keystroke combination (ctl-shift) when starting Vegas.

It's frustrating to have to use the reset . . . it sets ram preview back to16megs, and other paramaters that I've changed, as well.

Any ideas on what to try next?

Does Vegas appear to hang during launch with the splash screen still up?

Try hitting the enter key if this is the case. We have not reproduced this, but there may be a small chance that there is a message box behind the splash screen that you cannot see and it is waiting for you to click OK. Hitting enter will acknowledge the message box if it is there. If this is the problem, please let us know.

In my case it did not hang with the splash screen still up. It would get just past the splash screen, it would load my docked windows settings in Vegas, then just vanish. No error message, nothing.

Not completely sure what MM does for me but I do know that it does cause Vegas 6.0b to hang up. I disabled MM and don't see need to re-enable it. Vegas 6.0b seems to do everything I want without it.

I took the advice on another post and sold my 2x512 sticks of ram(were not identical) and bought 1 stick of 1 gig ram. I reinstalled MM and so far it works much better without glitches or hangups. Maybe this is the answer? Give it a try.

I have two identical 512 sticks of ram, presumably from the same batch since it was a factory built machine.

I think I might roll back to Vegas 5. I feel like a total idiot for telling everyone how stable Vegas was, now I'm a week or two in the tank dealing with MM crap, long magic bullet renders, and print to tape issues with 6.0b. Watching me try and get 6.0b working 100% is like a TV hospital program were the hotshot doctor refuses to let the dead patient go. He just keeps using the defibrillator, and chest compressions with no results.

Try installing the update to .NET 1.1 It's a service pack specifically for the .NET framework . Since I did that I've had clear sailing with V6. In the interest of clarity:
install the latest version of .NET1.1 and the service pack for it. If the service pack has already been installed-install it again (that 's what I did). Vegas loads now in less than a minute and media manager works aok. BTW this advice was given to me from customer service @ sony .

I'm pretty sure I have the .Net 1.1 update, the Sony Demo CD I got at NAB had it on there. Note: my problem is with Vegas 6.0b, not the demo.

My problem may not be your problem, but my puter didn't like the Net 1.1 that came with the V5 disk. After loading it, every time I logged on, it wanted a password. I finally reinstalled XP Home (in conjunction with adding a new harddrive) and the Net 1.1 from the V6 disk and no more was I asked for a password. And MM works fine. But then, it worked ok before.

It prolly asked for a pword cuz .Net adds an extra user when you install. Delete that extra user and you won't get the login prompt from Windows.

You would think. The system wouldn't let. Something about it being password protected. Not one that I gave it. So, I loaded the Tweak GUI and tried a work-around. Worked great, until I shut down and restarted. Back to being asked for a password. The reinstall of XP and the 1.1 on the V6 did put a guest on my system, but this time it was easily removed. V6 runs like a dream. In the 1.5 year I've had V5, V6, one crash from a lockup (attributed to doing NLE.)

The newest version of .NET doesn't force you to log on, if you only have one user.
