Media Offline.

This may be a basic question, but it has me bamboozled at the moment. I have been working on a very complicated project for a couple of weeks now and needed to go to another application to get a new clip. I kept Vegas open while doing this, but when I went back into Vegas many of the clips on the timeline had gone blank with the message "Media Offline", and those clips do not show up in the Preview Window. I tried to do many things but nothing would bring them back. My backup suffered the same problem. I have checked out the manual and Help files but can find no reference to "Media Offline". I have checked the File Properties which showed file names which do not show in the Media Pool. Have these clips gone forever? Is there anyway I can restore them? Can anybody tell me why they disappeared?
Thanx in advance for any help.

Ron
you either deleted some of the avi files in your project, or you took them from a drive you removed from your system, or you moved the files after closing the veg-file, or you renamed/altered them in this other application you have mentioned....
There are many ways to lose a media file. You can let Vegas search for the file, or you can recapture it, if it was a clip from a tape.

I've noticed that if Vegas is open and I switch to another program, switching back to Vegas has my media offline, but it always come back online. AlexB probably has the right answer, as renaming a directory or file will lose it from the clip. Try using Vegas to search for the file.

The setting of the media files "offline" is, I think, mainly to make file handles available to Windows whenever Vegas doesn't have the focus. I do know that it is a feature that you can turn on and off in, I believe, the Preferences set of options. Regardless of whether it is off or on, you can "lose" a file, though, as AlexB said.
