Media Offline

I've been working on a few projects when some of my audio suddenly disappeared with the message "(Media Offline)" appearing on the tracks where the audio peaks appeared before. These contained music I'd previously imported from I-tunes and successfully used and edited.

The online advice suggests this happens when files have been deleted/ renamed/ moved, none of which I have done. The online advice also suggests when this happens I should get a dialogue box presenting several options(such as searching for the file). This does not come up.

These audio tracks are all .m4a (AAC?) files. It does not seem to be a problem with .mp3 files I have used in the same project. Could someone please help me identify (a) why this happened (so I can avoid it happening again) and (b) how I can activate these events again (so I won't have to re-import in .mp3 and redo all the editing - there's quite a bit).

Any help will be appreciated.

Did you recently install the Quicktime update?
If so, do a search in the Pro forums.

Thanks for this...I have just tried that. I only found 1 post of someone with the same problem. No solution yet though.

I too have just experienced this same problem. Any ideas??

The new Quicktime update seems to be causing this problem. A workaround is to re-install the previous version of Quicktime, Vegas then sees the audio. But this doesn't cure the problem with the new Quicktime. Anyone know the answer?

... so I uninstalled Quicktime. Now how do I install a previous version of Quicktime? When I go to their website all I can download is 7.6.4

It was not easy to find. I am sure this was it. Go to
http://support.apple.com/downloads/#7.60.92
click forward 2/3 pages and look for 'QuickTime 7.6 for Windows'

Regards.

Love ya work davmol. Found it on the third page.

My issue now is that iTunes will not work without QuickTime 7.6.4. If amyone knows what to do here it would be greatly appreciated.

I presume I will have to uninstall iTunes and then install an earlier version. Does anyone know what version that will be and got a link to it?

Thanks,
Giisty.

On the Pro Audio board there's a recomendation to go to iTunes 8.2.
Giisty wrote on 9/19/2009, 1:33 PM
I found 8.2.1 by putting this in the search of the same page for QuickTime mentioned above.

I then had to delete Itunes Library.itl as this was for the later version. The downside of this is that I lost all of my settings, playlists etc however as I am not too much into setting that up it was not too bad.

I did save this file else where so if they ever sort all of this out i will be able to get it all back.

Thanks for your help with this.

Cheers,
Giisty.

In your iTunes folder there is another folder called Previous iTunes Libraries. In here youwill find past .itl files that you can rename and put in the iTunes directory so that all of the playlists etc are kept.
