Media Offline in Sony Vegas 9

When I am finished working on a video and then do the obvious (i.e. save it and close it), then go back to open it to work on it again, it says on one or more of my clips that the media is offline. I have went to 'Options' - 'Preferences' - and then unchecked the "Close media files when not the active application', but it still happens ... anything else I can try?

Where are the media files located?

If they're on an external drive, the program can lose the connection with them when Windows reboots, reconnects or otherwise thinks the external drive is a new device.

Hi Steve - I have copies on my hard drive on my PC and I also have copies saved to an external drive, but I don't have my external drive on unless I need to get something from there.

Hi Steve (again) - I just took a quick look at the films I am working on and the music I added is all offline and yes, the music I am using was taken from my external drive where I put them a few days ago. So, I guess that I should take the music I'm using and transfer only those ones to my PC's hard drive and it should be fine, correct?

Yes, that would be one solution. Just ensure that wherever you link to your media files is a permanent connection (such as internal second hard drive or an external drive that's been mapped to your system).

So then, if I take my music cd and then download them all to my internal hard drive as well and use them from there, that should do it then. I did notice when I replaced my music file in sony vegas, closed the software and then opened it again, that it was still offline, so I'll try reinstalling the music onto my PC - thanks Steve.
