Media Pool acting VERY strange

Randy Brown wrote on 10/13/2003, 4:33 PM
Hi,
I have a rather large project with 10 folders and subfolders. I try to add another folder and suddenly all folders contain all media, I add another and it shows to have all media in it also; I keep on working though and try to import several .wav files but they are nowhere (in the media pool)to be found after adding to the media pool. For the first time, I use the "Search Media Bins" to see if I'm just overlooking these added .wav files and the magnifying glass icon along with"Search Results: with name of media here" are added below all of the bins. Now I notice there are only 30 items in all of the folders (but there are well over 100 in the project). Any thoughts?
TIA,
Randy

Please save off a copy of this problem project, as-is, and email it to me (just the .veg)

Thanks!

Hmmm, don't know the problem but I got this back twice (the second time I took out the attached 551 KB .veg just to test it):

I'd try sonyepm@sonypictures.com

Hi Randy,

This is exactly what happens to us from time to time. Others have posted the same thing. Hopefully SonyEPM can help shed some light on this problem now that you emailed a veg to him. Funny thing is it doesn't always happen.

I have had similar problems, in fact, I had one today. My project was much smaller (three bins, 50 or so clips). I'd imported a few psd files into my graphics bin, and they didn't appear. However, after closing and reopening the media pool, all the clips were back in the right place.

I can't gay-run-tee this will work for all similar isues, but it's a quick and easy work around for me.

Good luck

Refresh . . refesh . . refresh. Closing and openning V4 does it. You want to ensure your regions have been placed in Explorer? Refresh. IMHO not something, being a Windows user, is easy to digest. I don't need to Refresh Windows own Explorer to see new files or folders - they appear. I don't refresh when I import files into Media Pool. They appear there imeadiatley - why then on Bins and Regions within V4 Explorer . . . I'm sure this will be . . . . improved.

I've just thought. Those who do send veggies to Sony for investigation, might not get the solution they/we are after, as they will too "open" the veggie and then this will activate a refresh! Much like our colleagues here who have witnessed the same when they too close and then Open the same naughty/wayward project . . . only a thought . . . ;-)

But I do hope we do get a solution to this . .would make V4 less frustrating.

BTW - Put a search on something like "Bins" and "Refresh" or "bin management" . . .

Pressing the F5 key while the explorer or media pool windows have focus will force a refresh. No need to close and reopen.

Refresh doesn not seem to fix the media pool issue. Strange problem.

When it rears its ugly head, we have to use the explorer instead of the media pool. Not the worst thing in the world but a pain nonetheless.

Not in my (and apparently others') case Grazie. I opened/ closed, and restarted a few times. And now it's had a long night's rest...how much refreshment does it need? : )
I'm hoping EPM will read this today and let me know where to send the .veg. I've copied/pasted what he/she posted, then tried Nat's idea and put sony in front instead of sonic, then, after looking again at the address EPM posted, thought it looked like there was a space between the c and the e of sonicepm, so I tried it without the space, but it still returns. If I don't hear from them this morning I suppose I'll call them.
Thanks for everyones' support!

Sounds like it's time to add some more chlorine to the pool to clean it up!

Thanks Randy- the sample project will be very helpful in tracking the problem down.

No time estimate on the fix -

I don't want to run this in the ground but thought you may be interested in a new problem I'm having with the Media Pool: When I try to import clips, say "CCC ad- Clip 0011", I get "CCC ad- 0015" (or 0032 etc) and they are greyed out.
