Media Pool locks up system

Everytime I go into my mediapool Vegas Video locks up and I get a Program not responding error. Can any tell me why its doing this or how to fix it?
Im using a 1ghz computer with 639 mbs of RAM.Vegas Video and all materials for the video Im trying to create are stored on my C: drive which is a maxtor 120gb. The media pool has 20gbs of material, that includes sound files, video and type text. The program runs fine as long as I dont try to go into the media pool.
Any ideas on what my problem is?
Thanks.

Unless all of that 20GB's is for one project I'd move some of it elsewhere. That's a ton of stuff to import and make thumbnails of. Could be why your system is choking.

The media pool is just a convience. Files don't have to be in any one spot. There may one file or one class of file that's causing the problem. I would use Windows Explorer to move everything out to another folder, then rebuild your project file. If you move your files of course VV will complain in can't find them, so just remember to use BROWSE to locate them again. No real harm note. Just save your project file before and after.

Take a look at the thread 'Importing MPEG causes VV30 Crash'. Or better yet, change your view in media pool to anything other than thumbnail. I'm guessing this will solve your problem.

Other than the overhead required to create thumbnails, I see no reason why the number of references (or the size of the files to which those references are associated) loaded into the media pool should cause a problem on your system were it not for this known issue with thumbnails.

Good luck.

I just read a post elsewhere that recommends setting the view to "List" or "Details" in the trimmer. It seems that the thumbnail view isn't working smoothly. SF says there's a fix coming.

I hope SF fixes the thumbnails problem. As an amateur I need thumbnails, to avoid typing names on the 1,000 clips used in each of our home movies.
