"Media Pool" - Need Help

splendic wrote on 12/30/2003, 8:52 AM
Hi all. I want to be able to take a clip from the media pool, drop it on the timeline, make edits to this single clip and then drop the edited clip back into the media pool, thereby having both the original clip and its edited version in the media pool at the same time. With some other programs all you have to do is drag and drop the edited clip back down into the bin and then you are given the chance to rename it and it appears in the bin. With VV4 the clip just gets pulled down to a new video track. I would appreciate any help people can afford to give. Thanks.

I don't do this, so I can't really directly help you, but I believe that you want to use the Trimmer. I hear that does what you're asking for.

If you open the clip in the trimmer, you can create and save regions around the areas you want separated. Then you can view these regions in the EXPLORER window (have to change from the default to allow regions to show). However, the will NOT appear in the Media Pool.

I too have wanted to do this very often. Coming from a Media 100 background, that feature was one I became very used to using. Maybe this is something that Sony can address in future releases? Meanwhile, the trimmer option does work, but it's not as quick.

If you make edits on the timeline and than " Render To New Track " I believe that the rendered track will be added to the media pool.

Isn't that "render to a new track" option just for audio?

No. Render to new track will work for both audio and video. It will also create new clips in the media pool AND on the hard drive. So you will be taking up more hard drive space.
