Media Software Preset Manager With Vegas 6??

kentwolf wrote on 9/21/2005, 7:44 PM
I downloaded the Sony Media Software Preset Manager with the intent of using it for Vegas FX settings.

The link to download it is on the bottom of the *Vegas* updates page.

All it seems to reference is Sound Forge.

Am I missing something, or isn't the Sony Media Software Preset Manager supposed to work with Vegas???

Thanks.

K, send me an email of a screen shot. I'm having problems understanding what you are actually seeing?

I use PM, not everyday mind you, and it has worked and works well. It could be something simple that you need to have to have "refreshed" PM on a system that HAS a bunch of Vegas Presets too?

I've just re-looked at my PM and it lists all my OWN Vegas-created presets/chains. It also lists the Audio FX Plug-ins too. So how did my Vegas Presets/Chains get there? I'm sure it is because I had PM "Refresh System Presets" that MINE appeared.

IMHO, I feel PM does suffer from GUI-blindness in its logic.

I'd load it on a system having "Wolfie" Vegas Presets and do the Refresh thang!

. . only trying to help here . . :)

Grazie:

I got it (PM) to work in that I could get PM to show a Vegas *chain* that I created.

A chain is one thing, but I thought this would see FX *presets* (Preset Manager). i.e. Gaussian Blur (.001 x .001)

Am I correct in this assumption? It does not work with video FX Presets? Just chains?

Thanks!

Edit: Also, All I can get on the toolbar for Preset Locations is the one for Sound Forge; nothing for Vegas even though I do have a single Vegas chain show up.

Thanks.

Well, I found my own answer.

According to JetDV from a previous post, he said:

"You have to create a chain containing those presets before the Preset Manager can find it. It will find the chains - not the individual presets."

So, apparently, the Preset Manager on the Vegas update page doesn't do Vegas "presets." I guess it should be called "Chain Manager."

Alas, another half-baked implementation of something...

"I got it (PM) to work . . ." WHAT DID you Do?!?!?

"A chain is one thing, but I thought this would see FX *presets* (Preset Manager). i.e. Gaussian Blur (.001 x .001)" Uhuh! Yup I fell into that logic trap. Guess my mistake was in thinking that internal Presets would show up - nope! Ones you make as "chains" do! Soooooo... I guess saving a Vegas Preset as Wolfies Gaussian Blur ( the 0.001) WOULD! However, I have to ask you why you would be WANTING to manage a Preset KNOWING it was there? See what I mean?

"Am I correct in this assumption? It does not work with video FX Presets? Just chains?" - 'ere we go . . It is called Preset Manager, yes? It manages Presets. In Vegas it manages the Presets. However it does also SHOW and display audio Plugins! Scary - huh?

"All I can get on the toolbar for Preset Locations is the one for Sound Forge; nothing for Vegas even though I do have a single Vegas chain show up." - Not that I've discovered.

Overall PM is a great utility. Some of us HAVE been sharing. Both Edward's Site and VAAST have presets to share and use.

. . how DID you get to work?

Hah! Just read your "next" post: "Alas, another half-baked implementation of something..." . . .well kinda .. But better having SOMETHING at the bakery than no baking going on at all? Yeah? . . Half a loaf is better than nowt! As they say in Yorkshire . . .

Ok, getting back to the PM or CM logic. I have made loads of Audio Presets. I CAN view these Chains by clicking on the (audio) "FX Plug-Ins" plugs. I get a list of my audio chains to each and every audio plugin I've used.

For my money, I feel that the GUI should be renamed:

Plugins:

1/- Video
2/- Audio

Then under each and every PLug our own homegrown Chains - easier?
