Windows, Vegas, Mcafee, etc. all need memory. That's why it's limited. Also, virtual memory is worthless: why render to VM when you could render to your hard drive? :)

There's a very good reason to render to memory rather than HD. Its a lot faster!

Memory is what VV uses to build dynamic previews, the more you can give it in general the better. To see it working loop a short transition and watch the frame rate improve as VV renders more of it into RAM.

I'd agree trying to allocate all or nearly all of your RAM to it isn't a wise move, who knows what else might come along needed some of it!
