Menu Bottun help

thebrain900 wrote on 12/10/2011, 12:49 PM
I have DVD ARC. and when I start a new DVD Project I import my video file and it shows up on the Preview Screen.

Now it shows up as a Little sqware with the text under it.

This is ok with me I want my Bottuns to be both Vido image and Text.

But I don't know how to get it to show a Frame of the video in the Bottun?

What I meen is the Bottun has the Text under it this is ok but how can I put a snapshot of say any Frame to show as the Bottun?

I do know if the video you are useing has Markers you just go to that Marker.

But my Vieos do not have any Markers.

I am useing a lot of diferant video files so I have say five Bottuns that show up and I would like every Bottun to show a snapshot of the video?

In the Preview window, click a button. On the right side of the screen, look for the Button Properties pane. Select the Media tab in the Button Properties pane. Thumbnail Properties will dictate what shows up as your button image.

Thumbnail Media specifies the image or video clip that will be used. If it's a video, Start Time will allow you to select the starting point of the frame or frames that will be displayed. Style can be set to Still or Animated.

What did you meen it will have a Start Time?

If your source is a video clip you can define which frame is used on the button.

If it is a Bottun then why would it have a Start Time is the Bottun going to be of a little Movie playing???

It could be either a single frame from a video clip, a still picture or, as you say, a little movie.

And 2. what did you meen by Style can be set to Still or Animated.??

See above. It's your choice wher or not the button image is animated or still.

Thanks for al the help but just two more things?

1. I can set it to have a still Frame as my Bottun and it works. But it looks very very lite and Faded is this normale?

And 2.
Can you make the Bottun smaller it is a sqare still Frame but it is somewhat big and I can not see how all 5. of my Bottuns can fit on screen?

To the left of the preview window there is a tool-bar. Selecting the top right icon allows buttons to be re-sized.

If the button's highlight style is set to Image Rectangle, a translucent highlight color will appear over the top of the image, making it appear washed-out or pale. That's most likely what you're seeing.

What do you meen by if I have my Bottun set to Image Rectangle?

I do have it set to Text and Image and I have set a Frame start time.
And I have it set to Still.

If you Rcl on the menu image in DVDA you will see a menu that covers a number of options including crop and adjust. This one will allow you to manipulate the image to make it more acceptable.

Thank you I think I am getting the hang of how everything works.

But when I import a video it puts the thumnail in the center of the screen.

So i click on the select it in the center of the screen and use the Re Sizing tool to ajust the size.

It all works good and I drag it to put it in the top left hand side of the sreen.

Now when I import another video it puts it in the center of the screen but bring the first video that I just put up on the top left hand side down.

So both clips are next to one another.

And I have to move it again.

Why is this sapose to happen?
thebrain900 wrote on 12/12/2011, 1:50 PM
I now have a fue Bottuns on screen and each one has a Frame displayed of the video.

And I right click on the Bank area of the screen and pick Ad media.

Because I want a video to be my background.

Then I right click on the Thumnail and pick Make Normale Size.

And it goes behind the Thumnail Bottuns and looks good.

But now my Thumnail Bottuns turn See Through?

I need my Bottuns not to be See Through when I ad the Background video?
thebrain900 wrote on 12/12/2011, 2:39 PM
OK I am sorry I foundout how to make a video a Background and I know I was doing it wrong.

I now have my Thumnail Bottuns and they all have one Frame Displayed.

And I see how you can change the Color of Text but can I keep my Text White but have a Black Outline??
TOG62 wrote on 12/12/2011, 3:58 PM
I think the best you can do is have a black shadow.
thebrain900 wrote on 12/12/2011, 5:32 PM
I see it givves you the R G B models to set color.
For Black do I set everything to 000?

R 000
G 000
B 000

And the Y and X how do I offset the shadow what is good I am not sure what to do?
TOG62 wrote on 12/13/2011, 1:50 AM
You can also select colours from a palette. I would experiment with shadow to see what you like.
thebrain900 wrote on 12/13/2011, 1:14 PM
I can't seem to get the Color Palete to show up.

I click Shadow and the dropdown list opens.

It is the R G B Color Box and the Eyedrop pick tool and X Y sliders.

Ware is th color palette?
TOG62 wrote on 12/13/2011, 5:23 PM
Click on the colour sample, not the arrow to its right.

OK thank you for all the help I am now getting the hang of it.

If I make a DVD out of a DL Disc will it play in Home DVD Players or sould I stick with SL DVDs?
TOG62 wrote on 12/14/2011, 1:40 AM
A DL disc will play in some players - probably most newer ones.
thebrain900 wrote on 12/14/2011, 6:51 PM
OK I now know how to do most of the seting up of the DVD thanks.

One thing I know how to put a video as the background to my Menu but will it Auto Repeate or do I have to set it some how to do this??

Without meaning to sound insulting, it's apparent that you need to do two things to help you learn the functionality of DVD Architect:

1) Read the manual and built-in Help files. They tell you most everything you need to know.

2) Look at the all the parameters and properties settings. PLAY with them to learn what they do.

You shouldn't have to come to a forum like this and have every step of this quite simple process explained to you. I shudder to think what will happen when you contemplate writing dual layer discs...

I've also created a free 3-part Basic Training tutorial series that you can watch on my site.
http://muvipix.com/products.php?searchphrase=dvd+architect&btn.x=0&btn.y=0

The tutorials are for DVD Architect Studio 5, but even if you're using Pro you should benefit from the basics.
