Menu button creates 'disk error' message

I have created a DVD using DVD architect 3.0a. This consists of a menu with the main movie and a chapter selection menu consisting of multiple copies of the main movie so that a chapter plays then returns to the chapter selection menu. All fine and good.

When played in my sony DVD player the navigation buttons and menu buttons all work fine, except the video plays jerkily (probably due to the tight spec of the sony player). I also have an LG DVD/HDD RW system. The DVD plays fine in there, but when I play any portion of the DVD and hit the menu/list button, it displays a disk error and the DVD stops. If I select the DVD to start from the beginning I get the menu. Sometimes the DVD will start playing the movie or a chapter rather than the menu at the beginning.

I guess there are differences between each DVD player with regards how they interpret the DVD data. Is there a "standard" way that DVD's should be structered or is there a setting I may have missed ?

Make sure you have set your Main Menu as "DVD start item" in the 'project overview window'.

Yes, the start Item is the main menu. Also, from each chapter selection, the menu button is set to return to the most recent menu.

Ok - always worth to check! If the menu works fine on one DVD player, perhaps the other DVD player has a resume feature where it stopped playing last time?

However this doesn't explain the "jerkily" play of the video on one DVD-player - can it be a media related problem?
