Menu trouble on set top player

After burning the DVD I am having trouble with the menu in my set top player. The menu comes up but will not let me select anything and nothing in the menu is highlighted like it should be. I can not play the movies I have on it. What did I do to cause this and how do I correct it?

I have the same problem with one out my 4 DVD players. The one that wont highlight (hence play) the menu items is a Singer SGD001. I have no problems with ULEAD DVD MF2 or DVD Complete with this player.

I have a Philips Magnavox DVD 825. I just dug out my owners manual on the player to check something I had not thought of: What type of media it accepts. It was made in 1998 (yeah its an old one!) The only writable/re-writable media it accepted according to the book is that made on CD's

I am going to run to the neighbors in the next day or two and check with a newer DVD player and will let all know the results.

That was the problem alright. The set top player was 'old' and made before the time of DVD r/rw media. Everything worked fine in the newer player.

I had the same problem on 3 players, 2 of them are new.
The highlight did work when the menus are in "wide" format.
