Menus - default button

DVDA 4

I am trying to set a button on the main menu to be the default selection without sucess. None of the buttons are highlighted at startup. Want the user to be able to hit "ENTER" and go somewhere on startup.

All the submenus seem to have a button highlighted as the default selection. Can't seem to choose which button is the default button, but at least one is!!

Any help is appreciated.
Walter

Normally, the first button under the menu (in the tree structure on the left) will be the default highlight button.

Did you modify the color sets, or change the button highlight style?

Halfway there.
The main menu had the picture compilation rather than the submenu first. That is why the submenu wasn't coming up as the default menu.

Now just have to work on the other.

Don't know how to do these things, so if I did them, I am not aware of it.

Hi Walter

The 1st button created on a menu gets the number 1 and so on, & 1 is always the default default. For the main menu, the easiest way to set the default button, the one that gets selected automatically, is to create that button 1st.

You do have the (recommended) option of setting which button gets hi-lited with every link pointing to a page. For example: On a separate or sub menu, select the button pointing to the main menu, and on the right where you set the main menu as target, you also set which button to go to.

When you have all your buttons in place and linked, it's also a good idea to turn on the overlay and set the navigation... It's pretty well detailed in the help file, is really easy, and does make a big difference. In a nutshell, you're determining for each button what happens when one of the 4 arrow keys on the remote gets pressed.

But in case you created the menu buttons out of order, you can change the default highlight button for a menu by moving one of its buttons to be the first item under that menu (in the tree structure)...

Recreated submenu creating the first item first fixed things.

Thanks for your ideas and assistance.
