Menus don't work in Standalone Player

Tritium3 wrote on 5/4/2003, 6:03 AM
I have a issue where when previewing the complete DVD within DVDA everything works as expected - with all variations of Text & Image Masking, Underlining etc - resulting in a successful link to the relevant clip. It also works within Power DVD.

BUT & a big BUT the final burned DVD doesn't play anything other than the intro clip & displays just the menu page on standalone - with no ability to navigate to anything. No highlight or selection appears visible on screen. No other DVD Author prog does this (DVDiT, Reel, DVDFusion DVDWS, DVDMF & others) - so I don't believe its the player.
The files were prepared in DVDA (no errors) & burned with RecordNowMax. Quality DVDRW - which works with other authored files ok.

PLEASE HELP!!! I thought I liked the look of DVDA..........

What version of DVDA are you using?

Brand and model # of stand alone DVD player?

I've had some odd trouble with JVC players with earlier versions of DVDA.

Player is a Cyberhome 512. I have now found the disc will work on a Panasonic A300 - years old player......... is this progress? Is there something wrong with the way DVDA authors?????

Your original post doesn't say whether you burned a minus R or a plus R.

I never heard of a cyberhome is it a off brand player?

Cyberhome is a player sold in the UK. Chinese in origin. Plays virtually anything - as detailed on http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php The discs used which don't work are DVD-RW & DVD-R - when authored in DVDA. These discs do work in this model using other apps. I am now trying version DVDA 1.0c - and hope this may correct the fault - which I am convinced is due to the way DVDA compiles the assets.
Will let you know.

Latest Version 1.0c doesn't make any difference. How about SF giving a list of known players with issues such as this.......... The whole reason for putting DV onto DVD was to be able to share key such things with family & friends. How professional is it to need to ask what player are you using......... before then saying this DVD may not work..... DESPITE using what I would call a semi-pro piece of software!!

I have the same problem with 3 different players.
It works, on my players, when I use PAL-WIDE for the menus and make all menu pages to loop.

Thx Udi - will have to try this - seems a poor way to have to go though. Still think SF should investigate & correct.

The PAL Wide setting for the menu does work on this player - but it seems a poor way to have to do it - SF please fix this for version D.........

I second that!
Also, when the menu is looped the selected thumbnail is returned to the default one when the loop ends.

Confirmed!!!

The burned disc will not work on a JVC player, and perhaps others too.

Another hint:
When I try to burn the files to DVD-R using the latest NERO, then NERO gives a few warnings about the files that DVDA created. Something about a illigal blocksize, and then NERO warns that the DVD might not be playable !!!!!

(I choose DVD-Video in NERO)

Please make this work SF!

TrendyUser,

The Illegal Blocksize issue with Nero seems to have to do with the reallocation of the VIDEO_TS structure upon adding.
Don't know what exactly is causing the problem (who's to blame here) but the solution I've found to cure it is using ImgTool from www.coujo.de . This freeware tool uses the Nero API to burn DVD/CD and has a setting to disable the VIDEO_TS structure reallocation.

Solved my issues :)
