Mercalli V6 Plug-ins for Magix

andyrpsmith wrote on 12/1/2022, 11:35 AM

Installed this free trial but did not realise it excludes Vegas so plug-ins do not show. However if you try and uninstall V6 it identifies that it will also remove V5 and V4 - so I have not run the uninstaller.

@andyrpsmith - Hah! Thanks for the heads up, as I was about try out the Demo. I looked through the Menus and they look cute, but I didn’t see anything new there.

@Grazie I'm not really looking for anything new. Just any minor improvements to what is already offered in version 5 is great enough fa me.

I got Mercalli 6 SAL at the time of its release but I found it disappointing. It does not have any of the presets (e.g. Universal,Glide, Rock-Steady) as are available in Merc 5 SAL and I mostly cannot achieve in 6 (even with AI) what can easily be done in 5. When 5 doesn't work as well as expected (which is rarely), I'll give 6 a go and sometimes 6 is a bit better with Rolling-Shutter Compensation. Overall, I'm sticking with Mercalli 5 SAL.

BTW, I've watched the Merc 6 tutorials a couple of times.

My experience with Mercalli 6 SAL so far is that it is stabilizing much faster but not visible better compared to Mercalli 4/5 (at least with my recordings).

Personally I prefer to work in most cases with the Vegas Mercalli plugin instead of SAL

Yes, agreed. I should have mentioned above that 6 is very much faster in its processing than 5. And now with 6 SAL, a stab session can be saved as a project file and opened up at a later if need be - many might find that a big plus. Also, the export procedure in 6 SAL is different to 5 SAL - I haven't quite got the hang of it yet.

So, once again, we have a sample of a Product reaching “maturity” and its backers, funders, investors clamouring for sustainable profits. It’s the way of the World of economics and financing software products. The trick for these Software houses is to offer a new and glittering and seductive platform to entice Newbies or retain existing Users to generate more revenue. It’s an old story.

Personally, I’ll be wanting to see just what Merc6 can provide. For me, ideally, it would be stability without zooming-in; speed of Previewing; seamless functioning with VP and an intelligent use of my i9 and RTX3080. Here is a list of my software that continue to surprise me in combination with my hardware:

VegasPro - Of course! ‘Nuf said 😉.

IZotopeRX Advanced - Their latest RX10 Assistant is Grazie-Proof.

NEAT Video - Kudos to them for including an analyser for best GPU <> CPU and threads setup!

Prodad came out with Erazr, and because MERC and the company impressed me I was an early adopter. I broke all my own purchasing rules, it cost me a lot and, as far as I can tell, presently hasn’t been improved. So, Prodad MERC6, has gotta be good with the UG price needing to be still in place by the time the VP plug is made available.

Question is, will I be upgrading? Presently, the UG price is keeping me “interested”, what might be the deciding factors are what I’ve said above. Prodad has much to prove with me after that Erazr experience, it’s now called something else, oh yes, it’s been rebadged. Gotta ask why?

Stabilizing without zooming in, is possible when you accept black or coloured borders instead. Mercalli plugin in combination with Vegasaur batch stabilizing works perfect with Vegas.

@3POINT - This I know. I also remember John Meyer’s DeShake. Surely, now we’re in the AI Swamp, maybe it’s time for the swamp clompers to find a way through. Yes?

@3POINT - Then use another 3rd party software, for Batch Rendering? Patching for inefficiency.

Look, good feedback, I’m wanting more from those in charge of software development along the JFK lines: “We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things not because they are easy but because they are hard?”

Like @Grazie, the upgrade price for V6 is tempting. But I have V6 standalone in addition to the V5 Suite. I am "good" so will stay with what I have. Maybe upgrading from earlier versions might be advisable.

Besides, the IBIS in my camera, and when mounted on a gimbal work for me.

Indeed Prodad products are quite expensive, especially Mercalli, but Mercalli is also the reference in stabilizing. Mercalli 6 SAL trial has full functionality and no time limit. It just produces a small watermark in the rendered output (which can be cropped away).
