Mercalli won't detect any shake?!

RedRob-CandlelightProdctns wrote on 5/21/2018, 12:27 AM

I have a few clips in a 2-hour production that have some shake (tripod was cranked up and caused some motion).

Applying Mercalli seems completely ineffective -- just as shaky, and I've played with different settings. Opening the "show X/Y" option it looks like a straight line -- like it just isn't detecting any shake.. but it's *clearly* there. Using the Vegas "Deshake" FX (on a subclip, obviously) works properly on this clip.

This has happened a few times now so I thought I'd reach out here on the forum.. with Mercalli presumably being far superior I'd love to get it working. Any ideas?

Update: while the X/Y Axis chart looked like it detected nothing, the "Pan" chart indeed seems to see when there's shake... but it's not FIXING it in a spectacular way :( All that movement in the last 3rd is still present.

Here's are two links to the corresponding sample video (rendered):

I have the same experience and I haven't found any solution. It acts as if no stabilization is applied at all.

Have you tried the latest Update?

I have this: Version: 4.0.477.1

I have Mercalli 4.0 4.0.471.1 which I got with VP14. It doesn't work at all with my VP15. You can purchase an upgrade suite for $99 which I think will work with VP15. But I haven't done that. Did you Grazie? Or how did you get the Version: 4.0.477.1?

In VP14 Mercalli dialgue 4.0 4.0.471.1 seems to be the latest. (See images)

Huh! I bought Merc as a separate Plug years ago and have kept to their upgrade/update pathway ever since. I have both SA and PLUG.

Martin L wrote on 5/22/2018, 2:46 AM

I see. And does it work well with VP15? does it actually stabilize or does it act like mentioned above for me and RedRob?

Grazie wrote on 5/22/2018, 3:12 AM

To me, it works fine. I have stabilisations in the Plug and in the SA.

@Grazie I also have separate Mercalli V4. Currently version 4.0.470.1 is installed (this version is not mentioned in plugin's history) and it tells me that the plugin is up to date. If I download the plugin using the link I got in email, version 470 is downloaded. How do you managed to get version 4.0.477.1?

Thanks.

P.S. Mercalli V4 works fine in my case as well with VP13 and VP15. I'm using it very often, stabilizing more than 50% of my fragments. In some rare cases it cannot handle shakes correctly even after playing with settings a lot, so I'm using something different.

@fifonik - At this point, I suggest you get in direct touch with ProDad Customer Service.

Done. Waiting for their reply. Guessing that the update is for "Magix"

Thanks.

UPDATE: They replied with a new link with filename "mercalli-40-vegas64bit.exe" instead of "mercalli-40-sony64bit.exe" as it used to be. Downloaded. Version 4.0.482.1. Going to test it soon.

You'll get good results if you simply use the Vegas Stabilizer which is the native Vegas plugin. Always create a subclip in the event and leave the preview at Good Full before applying Vegas Stabilize. By doing this you will have great results.
