Message: "Retrieving media info. Please wait..." Then Crashes

I go to burn an already rendered project that has burned before and at the end of the process I hit the "Finish" button and get this messege:

"Retrieving media info. Please wait..."

It then sits and does nothing ad infinitum.

I hit "Cancel" and it stops and says this:

It has been determined that your project is too large for the selected media. Would you like to continue anyway?

I have burned this project before and it is well under the size limit of the 4.7gGB Verbatum DVD that have worked for the past year, so I select "YES"

After just a few seconds it burns a short burst on the disc (rendering it useless) and ejects my DVD telling me that "The disc is not of a media type that is supported by this drive"

Under the "Details" Tab is the following:
'SFMMCX'-(17)
'USB/1394 Devices'-(3)
-'SONY DVD RW DRU-500A 2.0c'-(0)
Module sfmmcx.cpp Line 415
The drive is not ready.
The disc is not compatible.

This is a BOXX PC built for Vegas Video, running Windows XP Pro - service pack 1, Dual AMD MP 2000+ with 1 gig of RAM. The drive is a SONY DVD RW DRU-500A 2.0c

Please help, this is costing me time & money.

Many thanks,

Sounds like a bad drive. Call BOXX Tech Support at 877-877-2699 and ask for Randall or Dave. They should be able to help you!

Hey, recently I was getting this same error message when I was trying to burn a DVD as well using a Sony DRU-500A drive. At first I was like oh, must be bad hardware since that's what I saw in the previous post. Then I got a stroke of genuiness and switched the media!! What a concept! (sarcastic tone) Now it works.

I just changed out the disc and it fixed my problem. It's weird. Both of the discs I used were brand new, same brand but one works and the other doesn't. :(

Not bad drives, Im getting the same message, "Retrieving media info. Please wait..." I waited 7 hours, then hit cancel and nothing. I open the DVD drive and it says insert a writeable DVD. I chose a different brand, same thing, after a few seconds ---- same message.
