Messy video - First secons of video playback

I have SonicFoundry Vegas 4.0d on Windows XP Home using a webcam (why not) to make shrot clips.
The video is all messy when I play a video track. The "mess" stops after 4 or 5 seconds of video playback. And this is not all. When I render that video it is still messy. Looks like it's a very ugly bug in Vegas.
This can be solved by adding the first 4-5 seconds a generated effect... or just black.
I repeat, this is one ugly bug that the SonicFoundry company have to work it out.

Is the "mess" at the beginning of captured clips only? If you split a clip after the 4-5 seconds, does it add the "mess" to what was normally clean? I know I get some artifacts sometimes at the beginning of a clip, but that's my camera tracking, not Vegas.

I do not capture clips in vegas video capture because it does not offer avi real-time compression. The clips from the other video capture software are compressed with ms mpeg-4 v2 codec, and they are messy, even rendered. The "mess" is described as artifacts and inverted colors.

Here is a past suggestion to try:

1) Go into project properties, use the "Match Media Settings" button to match your project settings to the video.
2) Load the video onto the timeline.
3) File > Render As, "Default (uncompressed)" to make an uncompressed copy of the file.
4) Use the rendered file in your project instead of the original.
