Microsoft brings HD---

If you have't sceen WMV -HD dowload some HD samples from www.wmvhd.com

wow...

XBOX will be the first official HD media solution. While Sony, Blu ray and HD dvd were sitting around bickering microsoft came from behind and isgoing to steel the entire entertainment media market.

WMV means that we don't hafto get rid of our investment in DVD burners and buy expesive HD/blu ray drives and media. We can all put out HD porducts with Vegas and distribute them now on regular Dual layer DVD. and customers can watch it for free on their computers now or on the Xbox 360.

Its only a matter of months before DVD manufactures. take the same dvd hardware up the video output (most already have 720p or more capable video chips in them) and put the microsoft WMV decoder in it and voi la instant WMV HD players for $399.00.

its a simple software upgrade for these manufactures. Maybe at best a cpu/video chip upgrade.

So buy those HD cams

HD is here. the proof is on www.WMVHD.com and yes WMV HD is already support in Vegas 6.0

Hurrahhh

They've had that same selection of WMV HD DVD's up there for a year. What's changed? What makes you think DVD manufacturers will support this format anytime soon?

I have Coral Reef Adventure and it's pretty amazing looking, but requires a 3Gz CPU just to play it back. Or you can get an Nvidia 6xxx card which had hardware decoding (PureVideo) for WMV but those aren't cheap either.

Plus there is no Dolby. You have to use discrete outputs from your PC to get surround sound.

IF uStuff build the decode capability into the XBox that's a BIG difference. The DVD manufactures don't need to do anything (which is why they like this and will not go near BluRay), as it's just another DVD-ROM as far as they're concerned.

I am watching these on a celleron 1.7 ghz machine with a cheap video card and it plays great.

re: plays great

Are you on Windows Media player 10? I observed a big reduction in CPU utilization for WMV HD content after installing that player. Unfortunately they only let it install under XP and I'm on Win2k3.

It IS really nice that we have a format that can fit a whole 1080P(!) movie with 5.1 surround sound on a single layer DVD. It should play back fine on any new Windows PC right out of the box, which is pretty cool.

(And yup we can produce it all right in Vegas 5 or 6)

Those HiDef samples are great but they're all shot in 35mm.

Where can I go to see some Sony z1 footage?

I think most of those samples are poor - blow any of them up and you will see macroblocks ..

ms should really re-do them as they are not that great ... I would be shot using that quality for d-cinema ..

the wmv codec is not that sh*t hot anymore ...
