Microsoft VC1 encoder profiles..

Ok, wel i downlaoded and installed the MS VC1 encoder then went hunting for the encoder (lookin for something like Maincocnept MPG encoder.. lol)

AAAAAAANYWAYS...

i couldnt find the encoder so i went hunting in Vegas and foudn something rather intresting in the MS WMV encoder settings..

Going into the encoder settings, in the format drop down box, i found a MS ISO MPG4 V1 and another MPG4 profile..

Im just curious coz for the life of me i wouldnt have a clue what setting to use for VC1 encoding, as i'd like to create a decent render which wil work on HD DVD and BD players.. i figured that some HD DVD players wont play AVCHD, so another otion might be feasable and compatible all round...

There wasnt much info on the MS website abotu teh codec, let alone the encoder

Thoughts on VC-1 encoding in Vegas??

Why not use the WME?
I've not tried the latest version with VC1 however the old version for WMV was far easier and more flexible than doing the encode in Vegas. A bewildering array of options as well but didn't take too long to get my head around it.

I've been trying to figure that out too. I would love to start encoding in VC-1 for HD DVD. Word has it that it has AVC beat hands down. Doom9 has a few threads discussing the subject and Sonic has CINEVISION which is supposed to encode/author Blu Ray and HD DVD.

What im trying to do is create a standard for the company whereby we we can offer clients a broad spectrum HD delivery option in HD.
Without being stuck in a format tug of war.
This ay we can deliver it, and no matter wha the client uses, our content wil work.
I know AVCHD can possibly work in HD DVD players, but id rather know for certain, and i do knwo that PS3 now supports VC1 as do most other BD playback devices

Authoring of said content with menus would be nice, but not a necessity. The priority is to determine compatibility of OUR product across any and all players.

It seems VC1 is the answer to that at THIS time.

I just dont know what the hell to use when encoding.. there is no information about encoding structures save for the info in the link i provided above which has a chart one can use as reference

well i jsut did a direct comparions onf the WM9 encoder from my lappy which doesnt have the VC1 encoder to the desktop which does.

teh desktop offers quite afew substantial render presets, in addition to 2 new MP4 profiles...

The render options and bitrates are easily tweaked when deciphering quality and motion.... pretty much liek the web based elements..
a no brainer..

the issue here though is which VC profile to use... as there is absolutely no reference to any of this on MS site..

There are 2 new profiles.. the standard Windows Media MPG4 Video V3 or the ISO MPG4 Video V1

The latter i would assume to be the actual VC1 encoder, unless im mistaken (which i prolly am as im only referencing VC1 to the V1 reference here)

Thoughts?
