Middle-Side Phase Inversion ?

I just purcchased Vegas 10 (with production bundle) ...

I am seriously considering the purchase of an AT (Middle-Side) stereo matrix shotgun microphone. The AT mic costs almost $600 and records one channel as a hypercardioid and the 2nd channel as a side-oriented "figure of eight" diaphram.

In order to "decode" the Middle-Side channel signals, it is necessary to clone the side channel "track" and phase invert that cloned track ... these two tracks are panned hard-right and hard-left, with the cardioiid channel as center (middle).

I need to know if Vegas Studio 10 will allow me to perform these operations, from virtual mixer for audio which is synched to video (i.e. video dialogue).

Does anyone know if audio track "phase inversion" is possible, in Vegas 10 ?

Thank you very much !

I can't answer your question, but was wondering if you looked at the included functionality of Soundforge Audio Studio. Functionality might be there.

Mark is correct.
You can easily open a copy in Sound Forge, select one channel, and invert the waveform in one click.

I'll give it a go ... Would be nice to do it within vegas and keep it all synched and on the timeline ...

... When done properly, you end up with a third channel ... a cloned side track, which is inverted and panned hard right.

... At least I know where to look, now ... but I do not see how I will be able to selectively work sound-forge into my project workflow, as audio may vary, from clip-to-clip and I sure don't want to import<>export any large number of clips, or the entire project, at once. I thot vegas evolved from a DAW ... Was hoping it would be native ...

... Anyway ... I am just about to build the computer (NLE) and vegas has not been installed ... just a preliminary inquiry.

I'll do what I have to but, whithout a purely definitive answer, I guess I'll not get the M-S Shotgun Mic until I can confirm the workflow is "feasible" ,,, given the major expense.

Thanks, Guys.

Can anybody condradict or amend those answers ?

I know nothing about your microphone, so you will have to determine what you need to do with the tracks, if anything.

As far as all of your other questions, the Open Copy in Sound Forge function in Vegas takes care of everything, and returns the new take to its original position on the Vegas timeline, with the original and all previous takes still available as before. It's about as "native" as it gets.

The two were designed to work together, and they do.

BTW, the "Invert Phase" switch is a feature of Vegas Professional software.
