Mildly OT - Problems installing NET1.1 SP1

PeterWright wrote on 4/18/2005, 6:22 PM
Before installing V6 I had to download and instal NET1.1 and its SP1.
All went well on desktop but on Vaio Laptop I kept getting Internal Error 2908 followed by:

"Error 1935 An error occurred during the installation of assemble "MicrosoftJScript,Version="7.0.5000.0",PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a",Culture="neutral",FileVersion="7.10.3052.4".
Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8002802F.

Now I know this is a MS issue, but I've already read through pages of their Help/ Bug fixes without finding one for my problem.

So, in the absence of discovering a fix, how do I get an email to MS Support - I keep getting the runaround through their FAQ etc and haven't yet found a simple support email address.

Thanks for any help.

Peter

Hi Peter,
yes it is a M$ known issue. Microsoft says:

To work around this problem, replace the Mscorcfg.msc file with the MMC version 1.2 format of this file. The Mscorcfg.msc file is located in the following folder:
%WINDIR%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705
To obtain the MMC version 1.2 format, use one of the following methods:• Method 1

Copy this file from a computer that is running the .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 2 or an earlier version of the .NET Framework 1.0.
• Method 2

Obtain this file from Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS).

For additional information about how to contact PSS, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com
Important Only replace this file on a computer that is running Windows 2000. Do not replace the Mscorcfg.msc file with an earlier version of the Mscorcfg.msc file on any computer that is running the .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3 together with either of the following operating systems:• Microsoft Windows XP
• Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

Thanks so much ezway - I'm off to try all that - will report back.

Peter

edit - not so good - I notice your solution only applies to W2000.

I've been around the support pages for another half an hour, tried one "solution" - Stop Windows Installer - without success - it seems impossible to simply send MS an email!!

More good news - after spending 2 days chasing non-help from MS and local Sony repairers, a Google search led me to a forum called "Hardware Geeks", where a guy called Joe directed me to a page where there was a "composite" version of NET 1.1 which included SP1 and some other "hotfixes".

Mercifully it installed ok on my laptop, and V6 is now sitting there comfortably.
