MiniDV Capture Software

For whatever reason, Video Capture on my Vegas 4 is now asking for a serial number. It has never asked for this before. I can find the Serial Number in my Quick Start book, IF ONLY I COULD FIND MY QUICK START BOOK. I don't think there was a separate disc for the capture program, it came with my Vegas 4. I'm not sure, but I think this might have something to do with my recent install of Windows XP SP 2. In the meantime, I've got video I need to get captured, and would like to get started.

Can anyone recommend software with the same general features of Sony's Video Captrue Program, i.e., onscreen preview, tape transport controls for my camcorder, and especially the ability to punch in time codes and do a batch capture?

Thanks in advance for the help.

If you can't get the serial number thing ironed out. I have no clue why your getting it though. Try Scensalyzer sp?.

Once I tried Scenalyzer, I never bothered with VidCap again. It is really a cool program and is also a great way to look through all your captured clips.

Scenalyzer definitely does the job. Don't expect it to win any beauty pageants though. It reminds me of an ATARI 2600 in a world of X-Boxes. A better looking UI would get it more face time in my arsenal.

Speaking as a geek wannabe, I can attest that Beauty is a function of function, not swoopy curves. Here I'm using XPpro but with the classic interface. God meant for Windows to be gray and businesslike, not Cutesy Blue.

The XP theme is the first thing that goes on any machine I use and most of the machines I set up for others. I figure if they want the XP theme they can out it back.

Scenalyzer is definitely the way to go.

OK, I broke down and got a trial copy of Scenalyzer, thanks to ALL who recommended it, it seems great. I used it a little over the weekend, then broke down and registered the thing.

I still want to get my Video Capture working, I couldn't find a way to MANUALLY enter time codes for batch capture in Scenalyzer, and I really need that Scenalyzer managed to overlook 2 scenes I needed captured. Went back and grabbed them manually, but still want the ability to input time codes into a batch capture.

Thanks again!

Did you make a clone or ghost of your harddrive? Sometimes after this you have to reload Vegas.

That's one feature I definitely wish it had as well. If it had that feature, I could use it for 100% of my capturing!
