Go with the newest model. Simple as that really.

Do a search for my other posts on the SR-VS30U for a bit more info. Works great with Vegas. You are able to input and output to VHS side directly via firewire (no deck control VHS side) with the 30 but not the 10.

Problems with XL1 audio drop outs, & vdeo hits ,works great with vegas ,not great with the xl1 . I have tapes shot on several xl1& xl1s cams that will not play properly on the JVC decks ( both sr and hr series combo decks) . these same tapes play fine on panny and sony decks, plus on cheap dv cameras.

Just my experience, your results may differ

Thank you for your advice. I did more search and maybe I'll hold off for a Panasonic. Seems that Panasonic would be more of a win-win situation with Vegas and XL1s.
