Are there any IRC channels(servers) that has help with VV and other video editing programs, if so please post some for me.
I'm pretty sure a lot more people would like to know this, i can't be the only one, can i?
I don't know any Vegas guru's who hang on IRC. An IRC client is too risky to run on my editors <g>. Most of us hang on forums like this and Creative Cow or DV.com.
Some of the client software has been unstable. Mirc isn't too bad. The other thing is I used to have too many people constatly tring to send me files on IRC without permission. Yes Mirc asks before taking them, but someone is bound to hack that.
Basically I like to keep my edit stations insulated as much as possible.
The answer is NO.
I've been using Mirc for over 5 years now and your in no danger.
Sounds to me that you've either been told horror stories about Mirc or you havn't used it much.
Mirc is 100% safe and will always be.
The only way you could be "hacked" is if someone sent you something and you click on it, now be honest, how many files do you open from people you don't know?
Don't you use some kinda Virus/trojan program?
Like i stated, i've been using it for over 5 years, never onced been hacked or caught a virus, the only people that do are people who either stand out or have no clue how to work computers to begin with.
Understand a irc based program or Mirc is perfect for learning video editing, it also saves time.
Also remember, theres more servers then just Dalnet, if your afraid of being "hacked" then why not look into a smaller server no one goes to?
Honestly i would open a channel on Mirc but to be honest i don't have the know-how to help people on video editing like tons of people on here and other editing message boards or i would.
Just think it over, be open minded about this please because this is something we need more of and remember, you can be "hacked" without using a program like Mirc/Irc based program.
Please understand i'm not bashing or questioning your know-how(never would) but this is something i have been looking for, for a long time.
Sorry to write so much and thanks for your time.
No problem. I hosted and was a member of two channels on IRC for 5 years. I will grant you that the software has probably come a long way since then, but then again I am just a crotchity old fart now.
My other eason for not hosting such a channel on IRC is that unlike a forum, it requires that you be online with it for it to be any use. Kepping the application active and the internet active full time eats up processor and gui resources more than I can sacrifice when I am actively editting, which is most of the time I am on the systems right now. I often have one crunching graphics while I am editing on another.
Back in my IRC days I kept a dedicated machine and connection active to monitor the channels and to make sure that was someone was there for folks that stopped by with cam problems.
I just don't have the time to do that anymore.
Best of luck and smiles!
BTW for the folks that are reading this exchange, IRC is quite fun. Stay away from the shaddy channels and the conversations can be great.
Y'all could always gather at http://www.chienchat.com/ (MUCH better than mIRC, in my humble opinion) and take over one of the rooms there for some discussions and real-time training. Of course, as kkolbo pointed out, those participating would all have to be online at the same time. Might be fun though! A few of you have popped by for a visit and it's been fun getting to chat with you :)
