Missing Audio...

Hello to ANYONE that can help! I am new to video editing, but have 5 years of audio editing and production.

Okay so im using a flash memory camcorder and an 8 GB SDHC card. The format is .MOV. I can record audio and video in High Def. Now when I import the files i recorded, the video comes perfectly with no problems, but the audio does not import with it. Ive checked the file propeties in the Project Media window, and it says "Stream Offline". I can record audio into my audio editing program then mix it down and import it to Vegas pro, but i cannot import the audio off my camcorder or any camcorder i use.

If somebody can help, I would GREATLY appriciate it!

First of all, try changing your extension from .mov to .mp4. There is a video tutorial here if you don't know how to do this.
Video no Audio, Audio no Video, File won't Open

If that doesn't do it, there is a well known problem with Quicktime 7.6.4 and above.
The most reliable solution is to roll back to QT 7.6 and iTunes 8.
A forum search, as well as this knowledgebase article, will lead you to more information.
MPEG-4 audio is no longer functional

So all I have to do is follow the steps in the other forum you lead me to? I mean, I have another editing program that will edit high def videos and read the audio with out any problem. But I just want to use Sony Vegas bc the other is ArcSoft...haha.

So your telling me that if i use the other version of quicktime, that should do the trick?

I don't know. But if you'll provide some basic details about your files as suggested in that thread it will offer some clues.

I'm not telling you anything. I offered two suggestions, of which one or the other (or both) helps in many cases. Again, with some relevant details, it will be easier to determine the source of your problem and lead you to possible solutions.

Okay, I actually got it to work! I downloaded the software upgrades, then installed quicktime 7.6, then after i renamed the file extention to .Mp4, it worked perfectly, but it also sucks because iTunes would not open because i didnt have the latest quicktime installed. And it sucked even more because i downloaded iTunes 8, and it instaled it, BUT it wouldnt even open. the message box read "iTunes 8 could not open because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."

How lame...is there anyway i can run iTunes 9 and Quicktime 7.6? Or is there just any way around this period?

As far as I know older iTunes require older version of QT. However, do let me know if that is inaccurate.

To get your old library back and iTunes 8 to work again...
I am not in front of my computer right now, but the fix is to find your old iTunes library which is backed up automatically. Do a search for *.itl (ITL). It should pull up an entire directory including your iTunes libraries that were created in older iTunes versions. Rename the most recent one (from iTunes V09) to something else. Then copy the last iTunes 8 .itl file which will be located in a subfolder to the folder where the iTunes v09 is located.

Alternatively, just move the current .itl file to a different folder. iTunes should then regenerate the .itl folder (after searching for the media).

Yea...I tried. It didnt work. I moved the present .itl file to another folder, and moved an .ilt file from last june, and it wouldnt work because it needed quicktime 7.6.4. I looked EVERYWHERE for that version of quicktime and even that quicktime wouldnt work like quicktime 7.6.2. I tried 3rd party websites and even iTunes, but it just isnt there anymore.

Do a search on this forum. The download site was posted within the last month.

You won't find 7.6.4 for download because it is broken.
QT 7.6 and iTunes 8 work together.
