Missing chapter markers

VP12 Pro. DVDA 5.2

Rendering for blu-ray, in VP I export the chapter markers but they do not appear in DVDA. I have not moved the file, and the .sfl file is present in the same directory as encoded media.

In DVDA, If i choose to create a new 'menu-based' disk, the chapter markers do not show. Once the media loads, all the GUI options to load markers from file etc are unavailable - they are greyed out.

If I choose to create a new 'SIngle Movie' the chapter markers appear on the timeline, and then I can insert a scene-selection menu which picks up all the markers.

This happens regardless of creating DVD or BluRay.

Would anybody have any ideas why?

Thanks

When you say "Rendering for blu-ray, in VP I export the chapter markers", what video format are you rendering your output video as?

Not all video formats can include chapter marker metadata.

For starters, lets hope that your workflows for creating Blu-ray and DVD are entirely different if starting from the same source.

Regardless, export of markers from the timeline of VegasPro into an appropriate videostream for DVDAPro - not only depends on the codec of the video, but also in some cases whether you are choosing names for the markers, and not just numbers.
Rule Number One, the right codec with markers as names always.

Steve, In VP I render using the Sony AVC Blue Ray 1920x1080-50i template. The .sfl file is created.

Thanks

VideoITguy,

I would welcome any comments on how best to support the two workflows.

I import the media at the original resolution - importing .mts from a canon G30 @ 1920x1080. I edit/grade/fix etc all at this resolution.

For the blu-ray I render using one of the AVC Blu Ray templates..

For DVD I render a PAL widescreen DVDA-compliant mpg2.

Both renders are VBR, with the BR max set to 25mbps and the DVD set to 9.5mbps

I have two different DVDA projects - one for the bluray and one for DVD.

I always use names for the markers, as these are the chapter name for the DVD scene-selection menu.

Any comments/suggestion as to whether this is the best workflow?

Thanks

I use the exact same workflow (successfully), except for NTSC instead of PAL.

If I remember correctly DVD-A 5.2 had an issue reading the markers from the AVC file. DVD-A 6.0 doesn't have that problem. My work-around trick was:
- in the BR template start with the DVD-targeted MPG file (with markers);
- then do a file-replace and put the AVC file in its stead...
- the markers magically remain in place.
