Missing Filters & Effects

Precise wrote on 8/25/2020, 1:57 PM

I just recently upgraded from Vegas Pro 17 to Vegas Pro 18 and appear to have lost many of my filter & effect add-on's I appreciated on Vegas Pro 17.

Plus: When trying some of the Effects in Vegas Pro 18, ie. Style Transfer, a notice appeared, stating that more information was required and directed me to Vegascreativesoftware.com where I could download "Vegas AI Bundle"...the needed information. I couldn't find that download.

Thanks for the quick follow-up. That took care of the 'AI Bundle' issue...thanks again.

Regarding the effects & filter issue: I've upgraded to a new computer to better handle Vegas Pro. In acquiring, updating from V 17 to V 18, it appears I have lost the following: ProDad, SpiceMaster, NewBlue FX Filters 5 Ultimate, HitFilm Movie Essentials, Boris FX Continuum Lite Unit & Boris FX Continuum Lense Flare 3D. This list of add-on's I have accumulated since Vegas Pro V14. What I am missing the most is Boris Continuum Lite Unit.

You have been very helpful...Thanks again.

@Precise curious.... I am guessing that 17 is installed on the new computer with all the plugins?

BorisFX has always been difficult when upgrading. I bought Continuum Complete 2020 to never have that problem again. Also, as stated elsewhere in the forum, the plugins are for that particular version of Vegas. If they work with a later version, consider that a "plus" but there is no guarantee.

I have both V16 & V17 installed on my new computer. Version 16 still has 'Hitfilm' and Hitfilm Movie Essential Pack'. Version 17 still has NewBlue Elements and NewBlue Filters. I started loosing plugins with version 16. On Version 18 all I have left, besides the standard plugins, is NewBlue Titler Pro 3. I thought by upgrading to Version 18 on my new computer I could spend the effort and get most of my plugins back. I spent the past three weeks trying to get some of my favorite plugins on V18 and ended up just making a mess of things.

I could be tempted to pay $300.00 for Continuum 2020 just to ease the frustration I've been through, however, not for just an "annual subscription." I guess I'll just have to be happy with what I have, with the resolve never to upgrade again.

I sincerely appreciate the attention you gave to my enquiry...thanks very much.

I have a perpetual license with Boris. Not a yearly. Write their sales department, explain your situation and then let them know which Units you have and that you want a perpetual license. They might work something out. I bought last year during a Black Friday sale. I was offered a price I couldn't refuse.

Hitfilm Movie Essentials will not work, sorry. There were lots of conversations about this, it will not work. Ignite Pro will only work with 4.1.

NewBlue FX seem to work with every version. Just reinstall them.

Which Boris plugins do you have that aren't working?

dave-stuck wrote on 10/15/2020, 5:03 PM

I upgraded in May 20 to Vegas 17 primarily for the Boris Continuum offer. Now, in Oct, we upgraded to 18 for the audio improvements. Now Boris doesn't work. Come on, Magix. Downward compatibility with plugins should be a given. With all of the other VST products I have, it's now much more difficult to stay with vegas when other platforms seem to 'get it'. It's not an answer to say "Boris is version license dependent". Either they're your partner or they're not.

Long time 3 license customer. for now.

@dave-stuck, which version of VP18 did you upgrade to? You say Boris doesn't work. It doesn't work in VP17?

Curious as to which other programs that use BorisFX have that compatibility considering how BorisFX works. Maybe you should write them since they are the ones that limit the migration of the plugins to a newer version of the software?

It's not an answer to say "Boris is version license dependent".

But that IS in reality the case whether or not it is liked by Vegas Pro buyers. The same situation often exists with other 3rd party plugins such as NewBlueFX and iZotope. 3rd party plugins that come as an extra with Vegas Pro come at a much lower cost than if buying the same plugin directly from the 3rd party company. I doubt if those 3rd party companies are making their products available via a Vegas Pro bundle as a low-cost 'gift'. Surely the advantage for them is to introduce Vegas Pro buyers into buying full versions from those 3rd party companies. Its a variation on the decades old approach of offering LE, SE or similarly named cut-down versions of a product that came with an NLE, photo software, video camera or other device. Their aim: they hope that you like it and so want to upgrade and buy the full version directly from that 3rd party company.

Either they're your partner or they're not.

The best way to make a 3rd party plugin company your partner is to buy their plugins directly from that 3rd party company. If you buy a BCC OFX Unit directly from BorisFX, it is normally usable on future and previous versions of Vegas Pro as well as other OFX NLEs such as HitFilm and Resolve.

Keep in mind that should you decide in the future to buy the full BCC, you will likely need to first uninstall all previous Unit versions that you have as comments on this forum over the years suggest that a full BCC install does not sit comfortably with previously installed BCC Units.

We upgraded from Vegas17 edit pro to V18 edit pro. Boris worked on all desktops with V17. Now it says "This is a trial version- contact sales~". Vegas says too bad. Haven't heard back from Boris rep yet.

Help? Haven't even tried any of the other vid plugins yet.

Yes, we uninstalled Boris and deactivated the licenses in Vegas as part of the troubleshooting process. Then reinstalled. Installation says Boris licenses are good, but when attempting to use a Boris fx in V18 it says it's a trial version.

Reyfox wrote on 10/17/2020, 6:12 AM

What version of Vegas did you get the BorisFX? Did you get VP18 with BorisFX too?

What I have was able to do is take BorisFX from VP15 and 16 and get them to work in VP17.

I installed VP17 first with Boris, but didn't have all of Boris installed just the Units I had serial numbers for. Then I installed from VP15 (using the installer that downloaded the correct version for VP15) only check marking to install only the licensed version and not the complete TRIAL version of Boris Continuum. Then did VP16 and did the same thing.

If you buy Vegas with a new version of Boris and/or Sapphire, it will overwrite your functioning version in previous version of Vegas. This has been the situation for a while now, and it is a Boris problem, not a Vegas problem.

I contacted Boris around Black Friday last year. Since all my Units were registered with Boris, I was presented with an offer that I could not refuse for the entire Continuum 2020 with upgrade to 2021 when it comes out. This gave me far more "stuff" than I could ever use, and I don't have to worry about this problem, and have Mocha tracking now in a lot of the effects.

+1 @Reyfox  ... My recommendation is to get BCC (complete) directly from BorisFX and thus avoid all these license-limited issues. And Black Friday is only about 6 weeks away. And yes, Mocha tracking within BCC is brilliant.

...and since a lot of the Vegas Suites usually have Boris, I can buy the Edit or Pro, depending on what additional plugins are included. But no worries about Boris any more. It's in VP16 and 17. Boris Continuum was also present in VP14 Edit and 15 Suite before I uninstalled them.

Boris also appears in VMS16 Platinum, most of them also appear in VideoPro X, Resolve, and Hitfilm Pro 15.
