Missing PRM.DLL with Vegas

Allanr wrote on 10/24/2004, 6:16 AM
HI everyone,

I recently started Vegas 5.0b and during the initial splash screen I received a message

'Vegas5.0 Unable to load component'

This application has failed to start because PRM.DLL is missing, try re-installing to fix the problem.

I clicked OK and Vegas seemed to load OK and a quick check rendering a project seemed OK. I have re-installed Vegas but still the same message. I am not sure what application used by Vegas uses PRM.DLL or if it Vegas itself, but as I say I can't see anything in the program broken.

The only thing I can think is that recently I updated XP with service pack 2 and updated media player to version 10/.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Allan

There's no PRM.DLL on my system and Vegas doesn't ask for it, so another program must have installed it. Maybe the DLL was removed somehow, but I assume there's a registry key left. I have no idea why Vegas wants to load it.

Try a search on your PC for the missing file. (are your sure it is PRM.dll?) If you find it, sometimes you can copy it to windows or windows\system or windows\system32 and it can find it.

Thanks for the input and help.

It's for sure PRM.DLL. I have also tried google and nothing shows up. I also seaarched the registry. I think I will try completely uninstalling Vegas and review any keys and try again.

Thanks again.

I tracked ths down to recently installing Adobe Premiere Elements on my machine. I have no idea why Vegas was loading some component related to this package. Anyway, I uninstalled Premiere and the problem went away.

Thanks for your suggestions and quick responses.

Good work.
And thanks for letting us know what the solution was.

FWIW, search the web, you'll find several posts and discussions (even in here) of Premiere Elements breaking other tools. Seems to be pretty intrusive stuff.

I am getting the same message too, except it is with Acid 4.0f running on XP Pro SP2.

And yes, I have Premiere Elements installed!

I fixed it!

I copied PRM.DLL from Premiere ELements into Acid's root directory. Restarted Acid and then I got the same message but for "MSVCR71.DLL" I did a system search and found several copies of this DLL. Again, I copied it into the root directory and bingo, Acid started up fine! Again this is for Acid not Vegas. But it sounds similar...

I have the same problem with Acid Pro 5.0 (and also have Adobe Premiere Elements installed). I have found no solution so far, copying dll's and other system files may solve it, but I'd rather keep searching for a "real" solution. I'll post it here when I know more about it.
