Missing sound

I rendered my first project & used the Pal preset for Video Mpeg2 video & AC3 stereo audio. I previewed my project & it worked ok with all of the menus & I could see & hear the both audio & video ok.

Then I tried to create the DVD file but not burn & the results were that I got several files in a folder called video TS which play in Windows Media Player & a folder called audio ts which is empty. Where is the sound?

I had noticed that under optimize that it listed both my menu sounds & project sounds as being PMC. I could understand that the menus which hadn't been encoded could be in PCM but why would the project not be listed as AC3 since both rendered file had identical names?

The Audio_TS folder should be EMPTY. The audio for your video is actually part of the VOB files in the VIDEO_TS folder.

If I click the video TS file the video plays but I hear no sound.

In that case, you put no audio in your project. The audio and video settings are separate. When you use the DVDA preset in Vegas, you also have to render to AC-3 for the audio. Then these must BOTH be imported into DVDA (which happens automatically if they are in the same directory with the same name).

I have totally re rendered the entire project, once again in 2 parts The DVDA video file & AC3 audio file. This time I have sound when I play.

The optomize function once again told be the sound was PCM & not AC3 stereo. I can't understand why this should be.

Prior to making the final DVD files I also tried the preview to monitor function using the clipboard & an an open copy of Vegas 4. I got a still of the menu screen on my TV. It had neither sound or movement but I'm assuming that this is the way it's supposed to be.

The optimize windows shows the Output format, not the input. If it shows PCM, it means that it will re-compress your AC-3 audio into PCM format. You should change the audio format to ac3 (stero or 5.1).
