Missing Vegas 9.0c pro serial number

Toxteth wrote on 1/8/2010, 2:32 AM
Hi, and first off may I say excuse me for posting such a topic in a public forum.

That said I am not happy with the level of support from Sony. I purchased an upgrade to Vegas 9.0 Pro on 18 Dec 2009 from the online store, my order was accepted and processd and I proceeded to download the software. I expected to receive a confirmation email before not too long with the serial number etc...this did not happen, I gave it a couple more days just in case, looked in all of my spam filters-nothing...I used the help and support forms on the web to no avail, I even sent a screen grab of my bank account to customer support...nothing...
The order shows up in my orders after I have logged in and I can re-download the software if necessary but still no serial number, I am running the software in "demo mode" so it will eventually run out.
I tried calling some of the support numbers listed on the site but all say number is not available and there is no phone number for Norway. So know I am not sure what to do next, just in case a mod can do something or put me in touch with someone who can, the order no was 9971804-3448 and the date was Dec 18 2009. I really need some help to resolve this situation as money has changed hands but no usable program has been delivered as it were...
sincerely

Alvin Christie

Thanks for the reply,
Yes, but it asks for a serial number, and the one I have is for the trial version, so I put that in and it sends me a very long "authentication code"...so what do I do with that, there is no place in the software itself to put it in nor on the website after registering the software!!!
Also this is in the FAQ section:
"What is an Optional Authentication Code?
An optional authentication code is included with the serial number on the insert found in boxed product. If you purchase a downloadable application, you will not need or receive an optional authentication code."

I have also been throught this proceedure, but have not heard anything back from them!!!

"I've lost my serial number, what can I do?
The serial number for your product(s) can be found in one of four places:

* On the first page of your quick start guide, or user's manual, directly under the name of the application.
* In a confirmation email sentto the email address you entered in your online order.
* On a small notecard-sized registration card that came with the packaged software.
* On the CD jacket that the software shipped in.

If you have lost this serial number, but you registered the software, you can contact Customer Service via our support site at http://www.custcenter.com to ask them to find it for you. The following items should be added to your email so the support personnel can assist you quickly:

* Your online order number, if the software was purchased online.
* The first name, last name, and email address you used to register (If you can't recall what email address you used to register, send them all your email aliases).

If you lost the serial number, and never registered your copy of our software, you'll need to provide one of the following items as proof of your purchase:

* A scanned copy of your receipt of purchase, sent to us via our support site at http://www.custcenter.com.
* A scanned copy of your credit card statement showing this purchase, with the credit card number blackened out, sent to us via our support site at http://www.custcenter.com.

Hmmm I never ran into this...

When I upgraded to VP9, I got an order confirmation message with serial numbers for VP9 and DVDA. Once VP9 registered I also got another one with the authentication code for license activation.

If it can help, the <From> of these messages was "confirm (AT) sonycreativesoftware.com"

Sorry...

Toxtecth, don't worry, I think everything is ok. ;-) The online registration process uses your computer unique id + serial to general a unique secondary code. this is not seen my you directly. The email is for your records encase you have to re-install the software on the same machine again but don't have an internet connection.

I wish that were the case, the software is still running in "demo/trial mode" and has 28 days left to run...and when I use the quit button, it goes to a screen that allows one to "buy the software or enter an already purchased serial number..."

My steps would be:

1. Look at the menus above and go to My Account - My Software.

2. If it's not listed there, call Customer Service.

Along the same line I have sold (for a very inexpensive price) my old version of V7 to my grandson (an 11 year old aspiring video maker). Of course my serial number which I have)will not work on his computer. He had trouble installing from the original discs that I gave him so I had him download V7 and install that way. He got the 'trial version-30 day notice' thing, which works for now. How can he get the V7 registered to himself and the 30 day limit removed? This is OK, right?

I'm not sure why it wouldn't -- I've used the same serial number on a few computers. Have done so since Vegas 4.0.

That said, he should have his own serial number anyhow. Call Sony customer service and tell them you're no longer have Vegas 7.0 and you wish to transfer ownership. I believe they'll set your grandson up with his own serial number.

Yup, this is the proper way to sell your software. Sony will deactivate your serial number (so that you can't use it anymore) and issue the new owner (your grandson) their own serial number. They will want to send it to him, not give it to you so he needs to have an email address.

So, putting a couple of these replys together it appears that the serial number is not computer specific (Someone stated that mine should work) But that the proper weay (which is what I want to do) is to notify Sony (not as ewasy as it sounds) so that my grandson can have his own serial number. And I understand that he cannot upgrade from that version?

Correct, the serial number is not computer specific. The activation code is, but if you activate online then it's all taken care of invisibly and you never even have to know what it is.

Contacting SONY for this is quite easy. There's a link for it under contacting customer support. Last time i did it it took about 10 minutes and a couple emails back and forth and it was done.

As far as upgrading, this isn't based on transferring the license. It's based on whether the license was already used for upgrading or not. Each license is allowed only one upgrade. If you've already upgraded then your grandson won't be able to. When i did the transfer it was in order to allow a friend to get the upgrade price so i gave him an un-upgraded serial number. Amazingly, SONY is ok with that!
