mix regular + widescreen footage

Hi
I have a bunch of tapes taken on a Panasonic NV-GS400. Some of the footage is taken in regular 4:3 video mode (with fields) and some of it is taken using the progressive 16:9 widescreen mode (no fields). I want to bring all of this into Vegas and output progressive widescreen.

The first thing I need to know is .... how can I tell which mode each clip has been taken with? And do I have to worry about this when I'm capturing? Will I have to set the field order in each clip property manually? Or will each clip 'know' whether it's fielded or progressive?

Second, what do I do about the field and deinterlace settings in the project properties? I'll have clips that need deinterlacing in there and some that don't. Do I need to process the clips one way or another before bringing them into the final project file?

Any advice or pointers to resources very welcome. I'm a bit confused.

thanks
mark

simplest answer probably to start is just capture the footage normally.
If you want to know the footage properies right click on the clip in the media bin then click properties.
but you can place them both directly on your time line.
you can set your project to dv widescreen and properties to progresive.
you will then probably want to set your 4:3 footage cropped to widescreen by opening up pan crop in the 4:3 clips and then right clicking and setting to "match output aspect"

then render out to dv widescreen progressive

Thanks.
I thought the properties were just a place to *set* the field order, pixel aspect etc, but it looks like the capture is picking up on the format of the footage. Regular 4:3 is giving me the correct field setting and ratio, and so is widescreen footage.

I was wondering, is this an attribute carried by the DV format? Or is it something the capture software picks up on automatically somehow? I ask becuase I can't find anything in the properties of the footage in the Explorer or the MediaPool (just once I've put a clip onto the timeline).

I have the aspect sorted out. The final thing is the output settings. I was worrying about how to set fields in the project properties, but I expect that 'None' will give me what I want automatically (ie use the fields setting of the 4:3 footage properties). Is this right?

Thanks for the help.
