Mixed Aspect Media

I want to create a std definition movie using media from a variety of sources. The media comprises stills of various sizes and aspect ratios as well as std and HD videos.

How can I ensure the screen is "full" with no horizontal black bands top and bottom (or vertical bands), while maintaining the correct aspect for the source ? (This will involve media being zoomed in of course).

By setting Source: "Maintain aspect" = No ; "Stretch to fill frame" = No
I can manually fill each frame and adjust the aspect ratio manually to be approximately correct by eye. Is there any way to do this accurately and more easily ?

Assuming the media all have the correct headers so that they tell Vegas their true aspects, the best way to do this is with Pan/Crop. Choose the 'match to output aspect' option and Vegas zooms in until the output frame exactly fits within the source frame.

Note that if you have cases where you're splitting a large clip into multiple events it's handy to pan/crop first before splitting as each split inherits the pan/crop settings from the larger event.

Thanks Chienworks,

I'd never noticed this feature ... quite well hidden:
"then right-click the image on the right side of the dialog and choose Match Output Aspect from the shortcut menu."
