Mixing 5.1 Video Score

4thorder wrote on 1/8/2004, 6:35 PM
Hi All, I currently use a collection of acid loops to make stereo scores for my slideshows which work pretty good, however, someday I would like to adapt these to a 5.1 surround mix on dvd. The only problem is, I am not an audio engineer and something tells me that moviing from stereo to 6 channel is a big step and there would be tons of problems, namely with phasing.

Can any one offer any tips or resource links to an amatuer on how I might be able to do this successfully.
thx in advance.

Phasing isn't a problem, it's monitoring and monitoring correctly. There is a tutorial on the Sundance site about mixing surround, and there is a fairly in-depth section in my book on Vegas about mixing surround. (Shameless plug, I know)
Also on the Sundance site is a Vegas veg file that allows you to test your surround card and environment.

Spot, thanks for the info., however, I am not sure which tutorial you were refering to. There are some about cd mixing and mastering and setting up your stereo monitors but nothing specific on actual 5.1 mixing techniques. Perhaps you could direct me to the title of the tutorial.
thx.

It was on the last page of tutorials, i just pushed it up to the top. View tutorials by author, look for Mike Jones.

The little drop down box of authors only has four items that start with M. None of them are Mike Jones.

Yo, Spot. What is the name of your book and where would I purchase it at?

Thanks,
