Mixing Console, help please!

I'm a relative newcomer to Vegas Pro (a refugee from Premiere Pro). I am editing HDV and trying to find an easy way of mixing original audio with music track(s).

I've tried to set up the mixing console without success. I understand the principles of automation but am getting lost with buses.

I created two new buses in the mixing console and thought I'd assigned my first audio track to bus A by clicking on "Bus A" in the dropdown "Pan 0.0, Bus A, Bus B" box in the track view. Similarly the music track to bus B. But note that when I click on Bus B in the music track, the setting in the first track also changes to Bus B. Using the Bus A and Bus B controls in the mixing console when playing the video has no effect on any levels. Only the Master control has any effect.

I've spent a lot of time searching this forum and searching with Google to no avail; I have also tried reading the 'Mixing Console' section in the manual, but got out of my depth there.

Can anyone give me a fairly simple guide to achieving my aim, PLEASE. I think I'm going mad!

Simplest way to mix your two tracks would be to add a volume envelope to both tracks. Manual covers how to.

You are affecting the "send" from the track to a bus. You should avoid using the "send" to a bus until you need to. You need to change the routing of the track.

From the Mix Console, change the routing the I/O region. On the Timeline track header area, you change the routing from the "routing" button.

I would suggest you read about tracks in the user manual. The Mix Console section really assumes you understand the signal flow of Vegas. You should also review the signal flow diagram in the manual.

The Pan fader control on the time line track header what we call the "assignable fader". All tracks will always show the assignable fader in the exact same mode.

You might also want to review some of the online tutorials videos for Vegas (and ACID, as many of the processes are similar).

Thanks for the help.

I now feel so dim! In my layout I had "mixer" window showing and naively assumed this was the mixer console. Duh!

I now have the mixing console and it suddenly becomes a lot clearer! Sorry for the confusion. And thanks for that advice which now makes a lot more sense.

PS I have been unable to find a tutorial specifically covering the mixing console in Vegas Pro.

The terminology is a little confusing - Maybe it's time to rename the Mixer to "Master".

It's even clearer if you forget about the "Mixing Console" and directly draw/tweak envelope lines on the tracks hemselves !

This was the way it was done until the "Mixing Console" was recently introduced. Previously that paradigm was not seen as a necessity, but many users demanded something that looked like a physical audio mixer.....
