Mixing HV30 and FX1 footage...

Just wondered if there was a problem mixing the Canon (1920x1080 square pixel) footage with the FX1 1440x1080 rectangular pixels) on the same timeline? Normally you would set the project properties to be the same as the footage but with two different figures which one do you choose and why?

I would choose the higher, on the principle that "maximum is best", not on any scientific knowledge!

I just threw an HDV clip (from Z1) onto an HD 1920 timeline, with EX1 footage, and was able to instantly dissolve between the two - Vegas picks up the difference in pixel aspect ratio and they occupy the same space.

Isn't the Canon HV30 an HDV (1440x1080) format, just like the FX1?

Or did you mean one of the AVCHD models? (HF10, HF100?)

Yes the Canon HV30 is 1440x1080 unless your recording live thru an Intensity Pro, which then becomes 1920x1080.
