I would choose the higher, on the principle that "maximum is best", not on any scientific knowledge!

I just threw an HDV clip (from Z1) onto an HD 1920 timeline, with EX1 footage, and was able to instantly dissolve between the two - Vegas picks up the difference in pixel aspect ratio and they occupy the same space.

Isn't the Canon HV30 an HDV (1440x1080) format, just like the FX1?

Or did you mean one of the AVCHD models? (HF10, HF100?)

Yes the Canon HV30 is 1440x1080 unless your recording live thru an Intensity Pro, which then becomes 1920x1080.
