MJPEG codec for Pinnacle Studio 10 edited .avi?

Hello all,

I have an old edited .avi file of a home movie of my son. It's a cute little adventure short movie I edited way back when using Pinnacle Studio 10, which required its own capture card to be installed during editing (and the accompanying mjpeg codec). I still have the software disc (but not the capture card), but it will not install on my Win 7 machine.

I can't find any usable mjpeg software-only codecs on the internet that allow me to even view this .avi file on my PC, let alone re-render it to an updated format using Vegas.
Any ideas?

I am not certain that this isn't a flavor of MJPEG codec that was tied to the install of the hardware. What you need is to continue a search via forums of all types to find someone running a working system and then have them spit out a different file - perhaps .wmv.

I know what you face because I have an excellent FAST system ( super expensive in its day) that runs on Windows95 that has a similar MJPEG connection.

Good luck.

It can open in Vegas by installing the Mainconcept mjpeg trial.
Addy can be found with a forum search.

The Pegasys PicVideo mjpeg codec is outstanding, both in terms of quality and efficiency on a timeline. Initially it looks really expensive but there is a deal for consumers here that is really good:

For the 64bit versions of Vegas you will need the 64bit version.

Thanks for all replies; it jogged my thinking a little bit...so...

I used MediaInfo to look at this file. Turns out it's an .avi that uses the Indeo 3 codec (render from Pinnacle Studio 10).
AND, it turns out that MS, in it's infinite wisdom, does not natively support this on Windows 7.

See this: http://www.ligos.com/index.php/home/products/indeo/

I may purchase that codec pack from Ligos.

But, at present, I can at least play back the file with Media Player Classic:

UPDATE: reading closer, it looks like the Ligos codec pack does NOT support version 3. Gah!!!!!

I'm pretty sure you can try the One I linked to without buying it. Purchasing gets rid of the watermark.

You can try converting it to something else Vegas can edit with Handbrake or similar. If MPC can play it then the other open source transcoders can likely convert it.

1. The MC demo works on my system with Pinnacle MJPEG files. It does not expire. The decoder does not have a watermark.
2. The encoder was not Ligos. It was the Zoran gmbh hardware mjpeg encoder. DC10+ does not work natively on XP or later.
3. Paid encoders may or may not work. Morgan does work. But for decoding purposes, there is no need to spend any money or chase fancier solutions.
4. I still own the Pinnacle DC10+ and have hundreds of hours of captured files on a hard drive. I just recently pulled out my nephew's wedding (2004) and did some editing.
