MJPEG editing in Vegas 4.0 ?

Hi,

I'd like to fix my MJPEG digital camera movies in Vegas. I seem to have two MJPEG decoders (Pinnacle sys and Quartz.dll) on my WinXP system, but Vegas doesn't seem to like MJPEG AVI files from my Canon S40 digital camera. The sound is displayed, but not the video data. How do I get Vegas to use the MJPEG codecs ? Otherwise, can anyone suggest a free
MJPEG codec?

I read in dvinfo.net that directx came with an MJPEG compressor, but after installation of DX9, Vegas still doesn't read MJPEG AVI files.

Thank you for any help.

http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/ has the best one. I have not found a free one yet.

Morgan and Pic Video are the two most used. There is another but I can't recall the name.

If you have a Pinnacle analog card, installing it will allow you to use its hardware MJPEG decoder.

Thanks for the awesome Matrox codec source. Before, I had the PICVideo codec running in Vegas 4, although with a watermark. After installing the Matrox package you suggested, I see the Matrox MJPEG codec installation from the codec viewer "gspot", but the AVI files I drag into Vegas are now back to audio-only files. How did you get the Matrox MJPEG codec to work?

Thank you for any help

You might need to uninstall the codecs not provided with XP and re-install the digisuite standalone codecs from Matrox.

Some say these are problematic, but I've found them to be fine. Indeed they support lossless and alternative color sub-sampling formats. PICvideo needn't cost more the $18 for personal use, it is bundled as an older version OEM'd with ShowShifter.com, if you wanted a PVR "to boot".

I was having the same problem with a little Aptik camera that shot video as well... got audio, but not video in Vegas.
Tried the Morgan Media codec at:
http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/technicalsV3.htm
it was free for 60 days, so I gave it a shot, yep, all my words turned to pix... seems to work just fine in Vegas 3.0 at least....
I would not have found this had it not been for the helpful posts and clues listed on this board ... thanks to those posts, I've now taken 3 frustrating days and make them worthwhile..!
