Yes, the MJPEG codec can be difficult for a lot of editors to work with.

You can try installing the camera's software on your computer. Sometimes this will install a codec that other programs can use.

But the best solution is to edit MJPEG video in Window MovieMaker. You'll likely find the results pretty frustrating in Vegas MovieStudio.

Thanks for the reply Steve. Would be nice if "the powers that be" could get some kind of universal standardization established for codecs so that we would not keep running into these incompatibility issues.

I did not have access to the camera software to try that approach. I will pass that recommendation on to my daughter to see if that will be an option for future movies.

Fortunately, I was able to do a conversion to an mp4 format using Avidumex. The resulting files opened ok in VMS.
