MOBO experiences - i7 processor?

I'm finally going to break down and get a new editing PC. As my years are advancing, and I probably won't do another editing machine, I don't mind spending the $$ for higher end components if they assure moderate upgradability. Will go for an i7 machine.

Am giving some thought to building my own. While there are some attractive deals from HP and Dell, they seem weak in the PSU.

The component that I'm most concerned about is the motherboard, so I'd like to choose one that has a trouble free reputation. I'd like an on board Raid 1 capability. I'll most likely run XP at least initially. I've no problem assembling the components, but I don't want to get into the hassle of troubleshooting the MOBO.

Any experiences good or bad with the various MOBOs out there would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ralph

very happy with my gigabyte u3dr. so far flawless with 7/64. nvidia 9600gt (it was cheap as the chips on it), 6gb ram.

price comp pretty useless i suppose - but when i compared my home baked to dell, it worked out $800au cheaper...... and of course, expandible in ways dell's are not.

Check out reviews on Newegg - you will see lots of feed back on MOBOs there.

Built my i7Core setup with the MSI X58 Pro Motherboard, cost me 180.00 for the board, actually was the lowest price board available at Newegg, been running trouble free for six months now, running a i7Core 920 2.67Ghz, 12Gig DDR3, EVGA 295GTX, Vista Ultimate 64Bit, 3-1TB Hds...I have always found MSI, and Gigabyte, boards to be very stable....

Thanks for the replies. I have read many of the reviews on NewEgg, but it's populated heavily by gamers. I'd trust the opinions of this forum both for facts and for use in video editing.

Thanks,
ralph

I've been running a BioStar T-Power x58 board since this past December (thank you Santa) and haven't had any problems, very stable.
