Can anybody give a definitive answer on whether or not Vegas can or intends to be able to directly import .MOD files created on the JVC Evario gear?

This question seems to have been glossed over enough times.

Bottom line.... how do I use Vegas with these files?

Please Please someone help!!!!!

Thanks, Pat

Post a short MOD somewhere so we can give it a try

.MOD is just JVC's (and Panasonic's) attempt to make people think they are doing something clever. "MOD" stands for "MPEG2 (Program Stream) on Disk" and that is all these files are.

Simply change the extension from .MOD to .MPG and you should find that Vegas will load them OK.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies...... MPEG2's huh?

Really??!!!! What a stupid thing for them to do,.....lead their customers down the road of perceived non-compatability!

Why they would do this is beyond me.

As I read the Specs. of my camera (JVC GZ-MG505U) it says:

7 Hours of High-Quality MPEG-2 Video Recording (Average 8.5Mbps, 720x480/60i in ULTRA mode) with Dolby Digital Audio (MOD file)

Video: MPEG-2-PS / Audio: Dolby Digital, AC 3

I there any degradation after the file extension is changed due to the way it is interpreted?

I actually read somewhere that Sony had a camcorder that created thes e .MOD files as well. But that came and went with them.

My camera records its audio as AC3 files. Is that affected at all when I get rid of the .MOD extention?
