I suggest you just leave it stereo. That way the same signal is sent to both left and right channels.

There won't be any benefit unless you render the file to mono, which will save disc space and reduce disk access by an amount so small that it's not worth thinking about.

But no, there is no harm in setting to mono, just as there is no particular gain in doing so.

Set to mono, an equal feed will still be sent to the L and R output, so there is no audible difference.

There is a possibility that you will use a 3rd party audio plugin on the track which is stereo only, but it highly unlikely that you'll ever run into this situation.
