Grazie wrote on 2/1/2005, 11:55 AM
. . .14 minutes now . . phew!

Interesting - the link in my previous post only works if manually copied into the URL field of IE. It doesn't work if you just click on the link.

Anybody know why?

BJ_M's URL was of course even better as it included the pw also.

It's funny, I used FTP on the Internet before there was a web on it. As late as a few years ago I used WS_FTP, but now I don't even bother to install it, as IE works totally OK for occasional file transfer.

Now if I can only get the whole video (it stopped at 10 seconds before the end)...
Grazie wrote on 2/1/2005, 12:01 PM
So it aint me! . . G :)
Coursedesign wrote on 2/1/2005, 12:04 PM
I got the whole video, even though IE said it stopped 10 seconds before the end.

Man, that looks good!

The blowups could be sharpened, but I guess that's cheating...

I have a feeling HDV will become the norm real quick...

Even for weddings. Will be interesting to see if WEVA will have HDV weddings featured at NAB.

Anybody know?

Don't even go DOWN the wedding road. You wanna see/read idiocy over HDV, go spend time on the videouniversity wedding forums.
I've been accused of being a paid schill for Sony over there. There are quite a few wedding shooters/editors that are worthy of respect and admiration, but there are an awful lot that are just hacks and wanna-be's that have absolutely zero knowledge of video other than they bought a camera and an editing system and can score a few bucks on the side. They'll take a brighter, horribly grainy shot over a balanced and smooth/no grain shot any day of the week. The shot with the little girl/sparklers has generated 4 mails from 3 guys over there, all three saying the PD150 is better. Yeah, it's brighter, but it's grainy as hell. I could push this in the cam or in post and make it even better, because there IS a lot of detail there, but that would negate the value of the raw footage. Same with the wedding shot, the detail is significant, and could never be touched by DV, especially in the dark conditions. You can see how dark it is when the flashes go off on the camera. I could have pushed the hypergain or just regular gain to a greater level, but it was a run n' gun situation and no time.

I get this error when I try and play it:
"The selected file has a scheme that is not recognized by Windows Media Player, but the Player my still be able to play it. Because the extension is unknown by the player, you should e sure that the file comes from a trustworthy source."

And when I try and Save it, I get a file has been moved or deleted thing. Any suggestions?

(EDIT) scratch that, it was a problem with firefox, when I copy pasted the link in IE it worked fine. Thanks for the footage Spot.

Ha-ha-ha!

I think the wedding wannabes are in for a rude surprise when somebody else gets the gig they were counting on, and for more money too!

People who hire wedding videographers are prepared to pay for it to look good. When faced with "do you want the same'ol DVD format, or would you like a bunch of DVDs and a future-proof HD copy?" I think few will be able to resist.

I never did wedding videography, but I used to do a lot of commercial still photography of weddings. 35mm for the newspapers (celebs), and 2 1/4" x 3 1/2" negatives (6x9 cm Fuji G690) to make stunning prints for the albums and walls of those who could afford it.

A lot of people choked on my prices, but when showed some past blowups from 6x9 cm, they HAD to have it. It really was the HDV of still photography.

Just wait for the next soap on TV, "Honey, if you really love me, you must get an HD videographer... I don't want to sit here in my old age and look at my happiest moment in fuzzy 20th century video!" It would have been an absolute shoo-in for Sex and the City. Perhaps Sarah Jessica Parker could be brought in by Sony to do an HDV commercial? :O)

Just look at the Sunday paper flyers from Best Buy etc. One has a collection of lines to be used by HD-seeking youth on their parents. Last week it was something like "Education programs are much more effective in HD, we NEED it for our school work!"

of course some of those actors/actress's will not want that much detail either ... hahaha

"of course some of those actors/actress's will not want that much detail either ... hahaha"

That's true... I think the lighting and makeup people will have to find new ways to prepare for High def. I saw Joe Theismann on a High def broadcast on Sunday night football this year. He looked downright scary! You could see every line, pimple, and make up- it was so clear. Look at this year's superbowl at the closeups of the announcers...you'll see what I mean.

No worries, they will have had their two hours of makeup beforehand.

I was once married to a lady who couldn't even go buy a roll of toilet paper at the market without spending more than one hour in front of a makeup mirror... For special events she took two hours (and she had had professional makeup training from some of Hollywood's finest)... Anybody contemplating marrying a lady like this, think about it carefully first. I plead insanity, Your Honor. :O[)]

I'm still waiting to see Phillis Diller in HD. Last night I got a good look at a current "star" (I'm not going to name her) in some live HD event on TV and I couldn't believe how phony she looked with a pound of makeup on.

Maybe we're not ready for HD. Not at 1080i on a giant plasma anyway.

HD has presented quite a challenge for makeup artists, they had to relearn a lot. Today there are new products that work very well for HD though.

When I lived in Pacific Palisades I bumped into major Hollywood celebs just about every day. After a while one gets used to finding that the "sweet beautiful tall babes" seen in recent Oscar-winning films turn out to be more like short, stocky elbow-pushers in real life, without the advantage of a makeup artist and a good choice of camera angles...
FrigidNDEditing wrote on 2/1/2005, 1:57 PM
short, stocky elbow-pushers in real life, - I married a major film star!?!?

JK JK

(boy am I glad my wife isn't on this forum right about now) ;-)

Dave

(EDIT - nix the short and stocky part however) (Whipsh, Whipsh)

Spot,
thanks for footage - it looks really nice.
Could you reveal your secrets for conversion to 720p wmv ?
Have you converted the CFHD clips to StudioRGB ? Is this required for WMV (I know it is for MPEG2) ? Did you perform any sharpening in post (to me WMV usually looks a little soft but your footage was very good).
Thanks
Martin
