Does anyone know where to find some "real" literature about this feature of MS3.0a? When I select "Burn it to dvd" on the Make Movie page, the result is a blank box with the exception of a block to enter a file name. I have the full version of MS or at least I thought I did. After I loaded MvDVD, I upgraded it to MyDVD 5.0LE via a freebie from Sonic. If I select "Burn to hard drive",
I get the options to choose the format. If I choose mpeg2, there are no custom settings but the box does display the estimated file size. In this case, 5.15gb which will not fit on a dvd. So if I select mpeg1, I get the ability to change bit rates, fixed vs variable etc.The estimated file size for the same project is now 1.59gb and no matter where I set the "quality" slider, it never varies. Page 102 of the MS manual makes this statement: " the key elements that make DVD so exciting are its extreme versatility- lots of interactivity, powerful variable bit rate MPEG2 video compression etc etc etc" How do you set the bit rate when using mpeg2? The MS3.0 procedure for DVD, is to output to .avi and then let MyDVD do the mpeg stuff. That seems to me to be taking a step backwards.
I am trying to wean myself from going back to S8 to burn dvds, But I find myself going back there as I can adjust the quality vs file size. I realize that mpeg1 may not produce as fine a result as mpeg2, but I fail to see where the versatility comes in.
I have searched this forum for similar issues but I find few answers. If you would rather send me an email than clog up this forum, feel free to do so .
