MORE PROBLEMS WITH VEGAS PRO 8

Darren Powell wrote on 1/11/2008, 7:53 PM
Trying to resolve the render issues with Vegas Pro 8 ... decided to set up my Dual Xeon box with a hardware RAID next to my Quad Core box ... copied my entire project to a 2TB external raided box and plugged it into the Dual Xeon machine. Was planning on testing the render from Pro 8 on a completely different machine.

However!

Tried to install Vegas Pro 8a on the new machine ... and guess what ... Vegas installer goes to install the Microsoft Dot Net Framework 3.0 (as expected) ... but fails with a message 'Requirements not met. Click OK to cancel install"...

The Dual Xeon has all of the XP updates and Service Packs etc ... connected to the Net via the network running my Quad machine ... I've just tried installing the Dot Net Framework from Windows Updates ... and it fails as well ... HUH??

This machine was the one I used up until Vegas Pro 8 ... so 7 is still installed and the previous Dot Nets ... never had any problems with it ... perhaps I should remove them all? ... any ideas appreciated ... I simply wanted to test the render of my project on a Dual Xeon machine to compare with the Quad ... but now I can't even install Vegas.

Cheers,

Well this isn't directly a Vegas problem as such. You'd kind of hope the M$ installer would be a little more informative, like tell you WHAT requirments are not met so you could address the issue.
Does the installation start and fail or does it fail to start?
If the machine certified or whatever it is that M$ call their trusted/activation/DRM Windows thing?

Maybe that's "Genuine Advantage". One of my machines has it and it's constantly updating itself. Also have you checked M$ knowledgebase although a simple message like that is going to get a zillion hits I think.

OK, found this page:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=10CC340B-F857-4A14-83F5-25634C3BF043&displaylang=en#Requirements

They do say if you've installed a beta version of Net 3.0 you need to remove it first.

Thanks again Bob,

You're right ... it's not really a Vegas problem ...

Thanks for the link ... I've also found a reference to IIS "Internet Information Services" causing a problem for the .Net Framework ... I just uninstalled IIS and now Dot Net 3.0 has just gone onto the machine with no errors and Vegas just installed and is now waiting for my Serial Number ... excellent!

Will be interesting to see if my project renders on a Dual Xeon. I'll keep you posted if you like.

Thanks again,

Darren

Hi Darren,

I surely admire your commitment for this, and can for sure feel your situation.
I hope that you hard work will pay off for you, and maybe we all can learn something from this too.

Hi Bob,

Just posted a new Topic with an update on how the Dual Xeon is going ... much more stable and rendering pretty well at the moment ... here's hoping Vegas Pro 8b will have better Quad support.

Cheers,

Darren

Thanks Ulf ... yeh, it's been a pain in the neck over the last three months or so ... following a number of years of happy editing with Vegas 6 and 7 ... so ... let's hope 8b is better.

Cheers,

Darren
