More updates on plugin conflict investigation

I have been able to make simpler and more refined test situations with some of the seeming "plugin conflicts" I have been experiencing with RX2 plugs by Izotope (very specialized and generally hungry) with some instances of Waves V9 plugins at the same time.

In terms of real-time playback, almost all errors/stuttering/distortion have been solved simply by raising the buffers of my audio I/O to the max, which is 4096 in this situation. This would, of course, be intolerable for doing ADR, live tracking or anything that required decent latency for monitoring, but seems to work fine in Vegas for playback, and there is no problem with sync for video, which was my only concern.

I am still exhibiting some real time playback problems, but only in the situation where I have the control window open for the Izotope Denoiser plugin while the clip it is on is actively playing back AND I have a Waves L2 installed on the Master Buss. This is a little bizarre, and never happens when that specific control panel display is not open, no matter what other stupid thing I am doing with my plugin setup.

So, this issue clearly concerns a graphics display issue. Don't know whether I will have to update my graphics card, add more RAM or what, but Izotope is gracefully investigating.

The RX2 package is pretty amazing, but a lot of the individual pieces of the package, besides being almost magic in their resultant fixes, are extremely hungry and should probably better be used offline. I have to say, though, that, even when I was using settings that were recommended to be used offline only, things still played back fine once I upped the ante with the buffers (as long as the controls were not being displayed and I did not have the Waves plugin on the Master Buss....but every other situation was now fine)......

The research continues. Izotope folks will be back to work on Tuesday.

In the meantime, I will be investigating my display card and RAM options.

Glad you've accepted the message about the most appropriate workflow with cpu-hungry plugins - suspect that is what you are going to be stuck with, however much Izo investigate !

Maybe Ivy Bridge might help....

i had to uninstall wave 64 bit because it seemed to be casing weird problems i didn't have time to troubleshoot

sucks because i love waves but also got really really upset when they stopped making DX and offered no upgrade path for presets ...making several years of my audio work useless

i am now using izo for everything and its performing well . it is much harder to use though and the UI needs improvements. I am also not sure the sound is as good as wave in some cases, since its aggressive with tons of hidden controls...its easy to over process. some of my compression has sounded "boxy" whereas i dont recall that ever happening with rencomp

i miss waves but hesitant to reinstall

I will try to do some more testing of Waves separately from the Izotope stuff. In general, I find the Waves interface and sonics better, but Izotope makes a few magic plugins, especially in the RX2 package.

In the past, I have found Waves ZNoise to be, by far, the easiest and most transparent noise removal tool, but noone seems to make something that can do what the Izotope Spectral Repair plug is capable of.......in terms of eliminating random sounds completely with almost no artifacts.

I will do some more testing over the coming weeks and see what I can report. Unfortunately, I have jumped in with both feet to chopping the video for the full 90 minute piece, so refined testing of sound and plugins will take a bit of a back seat......but will not be forgotten. I have to make sure that things are totally ironed out before we get to the rather lengthy sound repair and mixing process.
