Motion distortion

I am in the process of producing a standard definition DVD for a client. I have footage from two cameras, my Sony Z5U in it's .m2t format and from a Hitachi studio camera in ProRes 422 HQ format which is .mov. All works fine in my Vegas Pro 12 64 bit for editing but when I render using the Main Concept MPEG-2 template for DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen, the clips from my camera look fine but the clips from the other have significant horizontal motion distortion. The footage is of a dance recital and the legs of the dancers are very wavy when moved from side to side. If I render as a web file like 1280 x 720-30p using Sony AVC/MVC in .mpg file, the distortion is much better but when sent to DVDA, it resizes the picture so it no longer fills the screen, it is letterboxed in both directions. Any ideas on how I can get these two formats to render properly for a SD DVD?

You need to tell Vegas what the field order is on the ProRes file. Chances are it is defaulting to Progressive. You need to tell it upper field. That should fix the problem.

Problem #1. Set Rendering Quality to Best in Vegas Project Properties. You have a second chance to set it to Best in Render Properties.

Problem #2. Use the Widescreen DVD Architect template. Set the DVD Architect Project Properties to Widescreen (it does not do this automatically!)

Donald T. Thank you a bunch! Resetting to upper field first on the ProRes files fixed the problem. You made my day.

You are welcome. Glad it was simple.
