Motion Menu Bug?

When I import a movie for a menu it is recompressed but I will import the EXACT SAME movie as the movie and it accepts everything just fine with no recompression....what gives?

Menus are always recompressed because they can have other graphic elements added to them (e.g. text, buttons, etc.).

Does it make sense not to compress motion menus (send them to DVD-A in DV format) so the compression leads to the best possible picture quaility? Currently, I make a DVD compliant mpeg 2 file from VV4 for my motion menus.
